Huge news 🥳

WordPress now has 3,000 ActivityPub plug-in installs.

Which means that on a per node basis, WordPress’s install base is appr. 25% comparative to the size of Mastodon’s install base.

If I were to hazard a guess, WordPress is now the 2nd largest Fediverse server software in terms of active nodes.

In terms of Fediverse server installs, it’s more than possible that WordPress could overtake Mastodon.

Misskey has grown at a faster rate than Bluesky.

Sure, Bluesky requires an invitation.

But Misskey has no native mobile app, and no Silicon Valley press hype.

Snapchat has a big fat failure on its hands!

People hate the MyAI chatbot. They’re flooding the App Store with terrible reviews.

Complaints are that it makes for creepy and disturbing conversation.

But its worst offence?

You can’t get rid of the MyAI chatbot unless you pay for a premium Snapchat subscription!

🚨 NEW MASTODON FEATURE 🚨

When you receive a private message in your notifications, it is now clearly labelled "@ Private mention".

This improves usability vastly as it means fewer people will mistake public mentions for private mentions.

While private messages are not exactly "private" in the sense they are encrypted, they are still more private than public 😉

This feature's not yet available to everyone, but it's usable on the web version of mastodon.social.

See screenshot.

Interesting observation about social media “fun”:

Some people think is “fun”. However, I find it anxiety-inducing and stressful. I’m not the only one who thinks so. A few autistic people say the same thing.

seems “fun” to me because I can make it be what I need it to be. For example, it’s nice that I can create antennas devoted to my special interests.

The best way to explain is to imagine what would happen if (pre-Elon) fell in love with and they had a baby.

That baby would be Calckey.

Twitter + WordPress = Calckey

Let me explain... 🧵

A server was just launched for the Greater Boston area! Check it out:

If you want to give the New York Yankees some grief, this might be your home in the Fediverse!

Just found out that @Are0h is building a Fediverse project based on *key!

I suspect he’ll be adding critical community safety features!

I’m extremely excited about this!

I just embedded a search engine into a post.

How did I do that?

By typing the following line into a post:

The next wave of social media isn’t going to be with centralized Big Social wannabes like Tribel, Hive, and Spoutible.

It will be with decentralized server apps like Mastodon, Akkoma, Friendica, *key apps, /kbin, and (maybe) Bluesky.

It’s bizarre that people aren’t taking Bluesky to task for using only ONE node!

Wired says is the space for “the Internet elite”.

So what they’re saying is that is for status seekers and clout chasers.

You know, the spot for media gatekeepers to pad their articles with social media posts that say something to the effect of, “This!” and “This!” and “You, sir, just won the Internet!”

I don't think it's wrong for other Fediverse projects, besides Mastodon, to exist.

Especially since so many of them predate Mastodon.

, which is what is based off, predates Mastodon by two years!

Friendica started in 2010.

GNU Social is even older.

It's wild to me that so many folks believe Mastodon = Fediverse.

So will there be a fork of Mastodon without quotes and full text search?

Many people came to Mastodon because it didn’t have those features.

But now that Mastodon will have those features, those folks should have a place to call home.

Over the past few days, I’ve been sharing news about the Fediverse to Bluesky, and I’ve been encouraged by the results.

While many on Bluesky are skeptical about decentralization, even Bluesky’s journey towards it, new developments clearly interest them.

So I’ll continue to bring them news!

I've been a part of many social media efforts. For example, I helped build and grow Hootsuite.

But nothing compares to what's happening with https://calckey.social (and ) right now.

Right now, the growth is entirely word of mouth.

No advertising, press releases, Silicon Valley-style hype.

But last November, I told @kainoa that this could be a project that changes their life.

I'm honoured to help in whatever way that I can!

Just heard a rumour that https://yarn.social is slowly rolling out support for .

https://yarn.social is a decentralised and self-hosted social media platform based on the Twtxt format that has a privacy-first focus.

To find out what it looks like, here's an example of a yarn server:

It's interesting to watch how other decentralized social networks adopt .

Because Twitter has forced celebrities to have a Blue Check without their consent, that might be grounds for legal action.

I hope Lebron James and Stephen King sue Twitter's ass!

Mastodon is still getting 220K registrations a week.

atomicpoet, to fediversenews
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

Right now, https://calckey.social can handle more registrations again.

But we're monitoring performance very closely, and will take action if needed if things start to snowball like crazy.

We've had 100 registrations over the past 12 hours, and over 400 people per day are actively using the service.

Lots of action! And we want to keep the party going!

will no longer auto-share blog posts to !

This is because Automattic, the company the owns Jetpack, was not able to come to a "good faith" agreement with Twitter about access to their API.

However, there's also good news.

In the same blog post, Automattic announced that auto-sharing of blog posts is coming to !

At one time, there was a lot of crypto bros on the Fediverse.

However, most of them got angry that their servers were Fediblocked -- so they migrated to Nostr.

This is why bitcoinhackers.org shut down.

But now some of these crypto bros are using the Mostr bridge to interact with the Fediverse because, as it turns out, there's not much on Nostr right now except crypto spam.
