Gerade bereiten sich Hunderttausende Schüler*innen auf die Abschlussprüfungen vor.

Die Aufgaben für die Übungshefte werden mit öffentlichen Mitteln erstellt, doch mehrere Bundesländer verkaufen sie an private Verlage.

Viele Familien können sich nicht leisten, die Aufgaben dann nochmals zu kaufen. Wir finden: Mit dieser Ungerechtigkeit muss Schluss sein!

Seit 5 Jahren kämpfen wir gemeinsam mit @fragdenstaat für deren Veröffentlichung.

@lilliiliev @fragdenstaat Und ich würde die Sache gerne noch ausweiten: Wieso ist es erlaubt, dass Forschung von Verlagen vermarktet wird, obwohl diese Forschung mit öffentlichen Geldern finanziert wurde. Open Access kommt langsam in die Gänge, aber das geht so langsam voran und es gilt immer noch als prestigeträchtig, in einem überteuerten Fachverlag zu publizieren. Ich halte die Privatisierung öffentlicher Forschung für einen Skandal!

Ein OpenAccess-Modell im Rahmen der bisherigen Wissenschaftsverlage verschiebt tatsächlich das Problem nur. Ich hatte bei meinem Kommentar im Hinterkopf eher ein anderes Modell: Wir veröffentlichen so ziemlich alles bei unserem Universitätsverlag, der OpenAccess ausschließlich zum Selbstkostenpreis für den Druck anbietet (Werbung, Verwaltung usw. übernimmt der Verlag selbst).

@tazgetroete Wenn ich mir die Gesinnung dieser Typen so ansehe, erkenne ich schon, dass ich mit den meisten Transmenschen wohl viel mehr gemeinsam habe als mit diesen hegemonialen Typen. Bruchlinien verlaufen zwischen reflektierten, selbstkritischen, vernünftigen, sozialen und empathischen Menschen auf der einen Seite und einem viel zu großen Rest auf der anderen Seite, der die Gesellschaft nicht zu einem besseren Ort macht, sondern Ausgrenzung und Diskriminierung schürt.

Why @obsidian is 100% user-supported and not backed by VC investors

To keep raising money, VCware must paint an increasingly enormous vision of their future, which becomes impossible to live up to. This leads to increasingly disparate priorities that gradually make the product worse. What starts off as a useful app become burdened with crap. Eventually all VCware must exit. That means being acquired or going public to pay back investors. It's expected that 9 out 10 startups will fail. That's just part of the math in a VC portfolio. The startups that have big exits pay for the ones that fail. It is now possible for tiny teams to make principled software that millions of people use, unburdened by investors. Principled apps that put people in control of their data, their privacy, their wellbeing. These principles can be irrevocably built into the architecture of the app. Principled people have always been able to make principled software. The difference is that now you need far less money and far fewer employees to reach far more customers. That wave is only just beginning. If you have principles and enough patience, being 100% user-supported is by far the most fun way to build.

86 years ago, sirens sounded in Guernica as the Nazis carpet-bombed civilians. Today, they sound again for the Palestinian people in Gaza being slaughtered by Israel.

Amazing how there’s no media coverage of this to speak of in the West although even Times of Israel covered Guernica’s 80th anniversary.

@aral @LALegault Seriously, a nazi/holocaust comparison/relativization? Israel military = Israel? That's all you can contribute to the discussion? Why not an attempt on a critique of every act of violence with an affirmation of the legitimacy of self-defense (and Hamas slaughter is definitely not self-defence) and an option for peace and justice for everyone? But of course, simplification and generalisation is so much simpler...

@nixCraft Well, two are a taste, the is an addiction from which people are suffering (actively and passively) intensely and which is socially trivialized and people are stigmatized. So hopefully, people with the third option have a social environment that provides help and understanding for all who need it. Look for help, you are not alone although it may seem so. :BigBlobhajHug:

@astro_jcm Isn't it possible to predict the cat's behavior by looking at the way it looks when approaching it? Or by the fact that you as a macroscopic quantummechanical apparatus are in fact in superposition with the cat? :patcat:
