Amongst other things, I am an amateur folk musician living in Umbria, Italy, with my wife, two dogs and 14 cats. I play guitar, dulcimer guitar, melodeon, mandolin and synth, none especially proficiently, but hey :) As well as folk, I also create electronic music tracks. #Music #Musician #Folk #FolkMusic #FolkMusician #folkies #ImprovisedMusic #AmbientMusic #fedi22

Given that on top of everything else his party has done over the last 14 years Sunak has called the election for a day when I won’t be able to poll clerk and thereby done me out of a day’s extra earning, I’ve resumed my previous attempt at learning this tune of @squeezyjohn ’s - I think I’ve more or less got it:

My new book is out today, with arrangements of five famous classical pieces for a "ukulele quartet" of soprano, tenor and baritone ukuleles and classical guitar. The arrangements have been deliberately kept simple, to be accessible to the widest range of players. Find out more or get your copy in print or as a pay-what-you-like ebook at https://preecemusic.com/simple-ukulele-quartets

I’ve had my for about a month now. Progress is slow but I’m finally at least able to find the bass strings without having to stop and curse.

Here’s a very simple 16th century English piece. Still clunky and uneven but getting there. Playing with no nails for the first time in over 45 years is also a challenge!

Since moving to this server from .art server I realized that I had not shared any of my fractal art even though my bio says I have a passion for it. Must remedy that!

Here is a recent one I posted on my website. Find prints here> https://shelli-fitzpatrick.pixels.com/featured/purple-neon-fractal-nautilus-shell-spiral-shelli-fitzpatrick.html

I always wanted to be a stained glass artist but could never afford to get set up for that. Part of the reason I love doing digital art is that I can make pieces like this one that look like a window.

This means anyone can buy an affordable print and have a pretty faux stained glass panel in any room. I am building up a collection of this style of work. See more at my website.

I love it when trees grow on rocks. It shows just how determined and resilient they can be, if we let them.
This oak is part of one of the few remaining areas of temperate rainforest in the UK - look at the tree ferns growing on it.
We need to protect and extend these precious remnants.

This is in portrait format.

"Dutch widower told to leave UK after Home Office visa mix-up'

We were discussing such issues as incompetence and hostility yesterday in the 's European Policy Working Group.

Staggering. Not fit for purpose.

Is there someone you enjoy following, but you want to slightly reduce their presence on your timeline? There are a couple of ways to do this on Mastodon:

  • If they share too many posts from other people, you can hide their boosts by going to their profile, clicking ︙ and then "Hide boosts".

  • You can mute their own posts for a specific period, select a duration when muting them (it can be from 5 mins to 7 days).

More info all about muting/blocking at https://fedi.tips/blocking-and-muting-on-the-fediverse/

Whitby Bells is a contemporary folk song written by the late Dave Totterdell. The song tells the story of the bells of Whitby Abbey which were removed at the Dissolution. The ship taking the bells to London inexplicably sank in Saltwick Bay, and it is said that the submerged bells can still sometimes be heard ringing.

Dear @lbc

When you say ‘…14,000 people were turned away from polling stations…’ the word you actually are searching for is ‘disenfranchised’. 14000 people lost their vote because the Tories are frit. They were disenfranchised and this should be a scandal.

You want to make someone's day? Find an independent musician that intrigues you, then go spend an hour listening to one or two of their albums all the way through. I promise they'll see it and it'll change their day for the better. Every musicians' love language is "listen deeply to my music"!

Here's mine. You know, just in case.

Decolonizing Environmentalism

We are witnessing a historical push toward the dismantling of imperialism, the decentralization of power, and the welcoming of non-White, non-European values into conservation.

The EU has launched its largest ever survey into the experiences of LGBTIQ people in the EU countries plus Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia. Do take part if you're eligible, and share around so they get some good data! At the end there's also room to add anything extra you'd like. In general it's a good survey and I'm proud of a good friend of mine who's been working on it:

*Note for trans people: the initial question is weird in that lists woman and trans woman as separate genders, but you can choose either, and the next question is on if you're trans or have a trans background (so I put woman for the first question, then yes).
