Just got finished playing some xDefiant.

This is me now!

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@majorlinux was that on Fedora? or your Windows partition? gotta be easier to deal with Ubisoft esports on windows

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@majorlinux oh no, you did Fedora like Yamcha ๐Ÿคฃ

I used to play a lot of Hunt so I know esports are a challenge on linux sometimes, especially new ones

So I started looking to see where the linux swarm was at with xDefiant and... I mean just look at em go, what heroes
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1cxd1yj/xdefiant_launch/

stuff like this is awesome to see, however its also a big reason people don't switch to linux

(hope you appreciate this tangent, i found it fun to research)

majorlinux, to random
@majorlinux@toot.majorshouse.com avatar

I think I'm gonna do it today.

I'm going to dual boot Linux on my gaming PC.

The only thing this will affect is the amount of games I can have installed on Windows.

But if I can move everything and get a decently working system on Linux, that may not be much of a problem.

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@majorlinux what distro are you going with?

i switched over to Manjaro and PopOS (two different machines)

stuff was a little rocky for the first few months but eventually both distros caught up to all of my use cases

currently both are running very smoothly and have been for awhile

trying to get more friends to try what you are doing

FYI you don't need to dump your Windows PC, you just need to avoid buying a new one

"To use Recall, users will need to purchase one of the new "Copilot Plus PCs" powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips, which include the necessary neural processing unit (NPU). "

bigtuffal,

@pleaseclap
oh that's hilarious, so you have to buy an overpriced ARM system to have your privacy annihilated

@pluralistic appreciated how many details you got right about the paper bans in the USA Carceral system, excepting one

when drugs got in 2014-2020 it was almost always just guards bc absolutely nobody gave a shit about pretense because of the power imbalance you mostly describe, laws are only there to hurt captured people in my experience

Community college remains one of the best bargains around.

For 16 weeks of ceramics class -- including almost unlimited lab time, materials, and access to the kiln -- it only costs $216.

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@MLE_online right, because they don't pay the teachers fairly

the "value" of community college is you get the same professor pool getting the same terrible wages without the State/ Private caste system markup

the people at the trendy studios could theoretically make a living off their rates (not claiming they actually do, not claiming they aren't problematic)

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@MLE_online listen, there's no way you could know that I'm a displaced CC adjunct, but that's what I am

I see that there are pottery studio attendant jobs in CA going for ~$17 an hour, and yeah that is also terrible

my opinion is that neither of these places should continue to exist until people are paid reasonably

it isn't "another issue"

people don't deserve art if they're not going to preserve living wages for artists

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@MLE_online I'm not saying charge students more. I am saying the institutions should not exist until the pay is addressed. Kinda like you (hopefully) don't buy products you know came from exploitative labor, people shouldn't attend institutions run on exploitative labor.

Folks should really pay attention to this Trump project 2025 stuff. They are literally planning to get rid of government & experts & replace them with Trump loyalists.

Theyโ€™re planning to sack 50k public servants as soon as they win.

It will break the US as we have known it.

This is literally the same thing that Hitler did.

is there a better argument than "it will break the us as we know it" and some sort of course of action you want to make us aware of or are you just spreading their propaganda around and worrying

Stumbled upon an entirely AI- generated explainer video this weekend about the history of kung fu (inquiring minds at home wanted to know). Featuring AI generated images that sort of made sense until you noticed extra fingers and hands, and why is the temple on fire? Also AI generated text and mocumentary voice. I can't quite believe it has already infiltrated that level of content-creation.

The quotes via Acyn:

1-Kinzinger describes โ€™s odor situation as โ€œnot goodโ€ and says he smells like arm pits, ketchup, makeup, and ass

2-Cohen suggests that Trump is evacuating his bowels during his rally speeches [incl vid of said speech]

Interesting. Just read an article that included the sentence "the period March 2020 to March 2022 โ€“ the whole course of the pandemic."

This is actually very interesting to me because a problem I've been having lately is a lot of people refer to the pandemic as being over, but I have no idea when they think the pandemic ended.

Once again, the state of emergency associated with the pandemic is legally over, but the pandemic itself is very much still on.

Today I'm attempting to exclusively use the Pinebook Pro (running Endless OS!) for work, and it has actually gone better than expected. At the same time, dang, we're still lacking in a few ways on ARM; notably, app availability! How is Firefox not available on Flathub for ARM64??

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@cassidy at first I was thinking "why would you ever bother to try this with an ARM chip"

then I saw the entire machine costs $215 and I get it

i still don't think ARM is suited for general work and productivity but this is a cool goal to swing for

bigtuffal,
@bigtuffal@dice.camp avatar

@cassidy

I hear you! And I know you're one of the best people to put good options on ARM Linux. I also know the argument that most productivity is done in a browser these days, anyway.

And yet here we are talking about some of the same challenges that dogged the Raspberry Pi-400's use case.
