The risk of not checking info for yourself is that you fail to discover that GeoGebra sabotaged itself in 2013 [1].

Prescott to GeoGebra, 16 Aug 2013: "Let us ... recognise that this is not a licence clarification but a licence change. ... Have all copyright holders (java programmers, artists, translators...) who contributed their work under the old licence terms agreed to the relicencing of their work?" [1]

No substantive reply from GeoGebra.

Stop bleating on about how EU regulators are terrible, they don’t know anything, wont do anything, don’t represent what EU citizens want.

Do you like bibtex? Do you do doi? Do you want to get bibtex refs from doi on the command line? Yes you do, you wonderful monster. Try this line (adjust doi as needed, and see alt text for source too):

curl -LH "Accept: application/x-bibtex" https://doi.org/10.1002/evan.10110

boud,

Nice, but trusting the official journal has a huge flaw in terms of i.e. in particular, e.g.

curl -LH "Accept: application/x-bibtex" https://doi.org/10.1093/mnras/stw2745

fails to give the bibtex parameters

archivePrefix = {arXiv},
eprint = {1605.03982},
primaryClass = {astro-ph.CO},

Most journals are still paranoid about tolerating universal green-open-access ArXiv identifiers and do their best to purge ArXiv IDs into non-existence.

gives a more complete bibtex entry for any astro or other article with a bibcode such as 2017MNRAS.465..746S . A few html-to-LaTeX conversions are still needed for a few escaped characters.

@ca_se_passe_la_haut It's available on the official site, which confirms that it's peer-reviewed. But it's only "free" in the money sense for reading. The licence looks like standard Berne (C), not CC BY.

MNRAS articles for 2024+ are CC BY, but 2700 EUR is mega-expensive for institutes.

Per @dasaptaerwin 's argument, authors from countries like Indonesia, Algeria are not listed at [1], although there's a vague possibility of a "generous waiver provision".

It’s is a detailed, factual account of the at least apparently genocidal violence and torture Israel commits against the civilians of Gaza.

The court must agree that it’s urgent to investigate this, and demand of Israel to cease fire in the meantime.

THREAD: Whitewashing the Bayraktar TB2's bloodshed.

I'm addressing this topic, as it's relevant again and it got erased with my previous instance:

When the discussion of affirmative action in journalism is brought up, some believe that the sole objective of it is ensuring employment and growth opportunities for journalists of all backgrounds.

They couldn't be more wrong. By diversifying a newsroom, you ensure greater care for ethics & sensitivities of a broader and all encompassing audience.

Just one nuance needed on "ensure" in the top of the thread:

"By diversifying a newsroom, you ensure greater care for ethics & sensitivities of a broader and all encompassing audience."

The LA Times ban on ~36 of its journalists from reporting on Gaza - especially those who are best qualified on the topic - shows that journal management would have to be diversified too, or there would have to be participatory rather than authoritarian decision-making.

Finding active, relevant NGOs willing to talk to a journalist might take a lot of work, but should be doable.

Just speculating: Washington might have a chance of finding specifically anti-racism focused NGOs in relation to the semi-regular pogroms of ethnic Chinese. If the activists interested in opposing anti-Chinese racism see the wider issue of racism as a priority, then they should be willing to comment on the Aceh/Rohingya case.
