I believe this is an important topic for the Fediverse. Please boost for visibility.

New to me, and as Reddit seems to be taking a similar path to Twitter in regards to an API, worth mentioning. Lemmy friendly, but not Lemmy. Will have to dig in a bit to see what itโ€™s all about.

Thankful for the translation feature of Mastodon so I can follow interesting accounts regardless of language.

How many people do you follow on your Mastodon compatible platform? Please boost, thank you.

Curious if there are any official general stats on this as well.

Finishing up my Calckey Plugins week with a fun one. MFM (Misskey Flavoured Markdown) is quite an expressive art form and a great entry to coding, math, and styling (but having fun and not realizing your'e learning something) ๐Ÿคซ

Here I've created a plugin generator, which writes the AiScript code based on a few pieces of information provided by a user in a form.

The founding developer of Firefish has officially stepped down from the project. Keys are being transferred to one of the dev leads.

It appears Firefish IS still breathing, albeit flopping around at the edge of the pond right now.

Many instances migrated to other Forkeys - Sharkey or IceShrimp. A newcomer, Catodon, is also emerging.

Glad to see Firefish given a chance to survive, and wish them the best!

I've been using the @mszpro app off and on. But after the @wedistribute podcast episode, I took a deeper look.

It really shines for users on very small instances. Sora has a collection of unique client side discovery functions - trending posts from preferred instances and predictions you may find interesting based on your likes and reposts.

It's becoming a favorite for browsing my tiny GoToSocial instance, which can feel a bit..sparse...as I only follow a handful of people.

An interesting tidbit about the Threads opt-in process. I tried turning the opt-in on and then quickly back off - when you turn it off, you can't turn it back on for 30 days.

Ran across this excellent series from @blog as they build an activitypub enabled static site. Includes deep discussions about the core components that make up activitypub.

Good stuff, especially their work to convert an RSS feed to an AP outbox.

A takeaway from the is people need ways to make money here.

Very little funding reaches fediverse developers. Regardless, they push forward because they believe in this idea.

Not to mention users that want to make a living in this space.

I support fedi projects and the people making them, even when those investments make it more expensive to be here.

It's worthwhile. It's not enough.

Wish I had a solution. But I'm happy to offer support to those that do, and hope you will too.

Post.news shutting down. I think the largest fault was that it was JUST news. I guess for pure news junkies thatโ€™s great, but itโ€™s not enough - you need to be tied into larger social networks.

Agree with Tim, federation is key. Not sure how they would have managed the paid posts, but they could have tried.

I have been testing low visibility accessibility on websites I visit, just to see what the experience is like.

Voice over is very easy to enable on a Mac with a magic keyboard. Clicking your touch id button quickly 3 times turns voice over on, and 3 times again turns it back off. Excellent shortcut that makes it easy to include in your development process.

Is there an all in one "So you want to run a fediverse instance" type guidebook in relation to legal, moderation and long term sustainability tasks?

Things like templates for Privacy Policies, Server Rules and About sections, understanding moderation tasks and the importance of having multiple administrators, funding plans.

How to deal with government requests for data.

All the fun things.

This is just a ridiculously good deal if youโ€™re interested in setting up a blog, getting a stable, well run mastodon instance and be part of a nice supportive community - all included in the price. Lots of fun little extras too.

My husband decorates the house for every holiday, but Halloween is one of my favorites - even tho we haven't had a trick or treater at our door for 10 years! It's all for us. You might catch a glimpse of an actual ghoul in one of the photos.

Various retro halloween decorations, including a pumpkin / snowman monstrosity.
A happy mummy statue holding a pumpkin, surrounded in orange string lights.
A mirror above a bar decorated with bats, crows and horrifying pumpkins. A ghoul appears in the mirror.

๐Ÿ˜ฌ I see the truly good intentions here, but...it feels similar to all the CW and ALT text replies - but coming from the official mastodon organization itself.

It was noted in the replies that Twitter and Facebook already have similar feature sets.

You can dismiss the warnings after you see it for the first time, which is good.

I feel like there is a huge divide among developers on social media. Many are true innovators that create new things and have heated debates over each small component. It's exciting to read.

The rest of us quietly maintain those innovations 15 years later with duct tape and prayers to the search gods, keeping the current internet spinning.

Both groups are needed, but maintainers tend to get overlooked.

A toast to the roadside mechanics of the internet.
