Opinion: I think Threads is going to end up offering “Threads only” public posts if you are connected to the fediverse. In other words, yes, you can enable fedi share on your account, but then decide on a per post basis if you want it federated.

Hometown and some Forkeys already have a local only posts feature.

The question is…will posts federate by default?

One of the obstacles I keep running into with configuring new projects on my #homelab is that each app usually comes with their own preferred proxy included.

Then I have to find ways of disabling their proxy or mine. So far I’ve yet to find a solid way of disabling my NGINX Proxy Manager (pass through) for specific incoming domains.

Is this common? Is there an easy path of resolving this I'm just too new at homelabbing to understand?

An interesting find with self-labelling of posts (Content Warnings) on BlueSky compared to Mastodon.

For whatever reason, you can only self-label your posts with images in them. So if your words are suggestive in some way, you're out of luck. There's nothing in their docs about requiring an image, but that's the way their app works (and some third party apps)

A takeaway from the #FediForum is people need ways to make money here.

Very little funding reaches fediverse developers. Regardless, they push forward because they believe in this idea.

Not to mention users that want to make a living in this space.

I support fedi projects and the people making them, even when those investments make it more expensive to be here.

It's worthwhile. It's not enough.

Wish I had a solution. But I'm happy to offer support to those that do, and hope you will too.

An interesting tidbit about the Threads opt-in process. I tried turning the opt-in on and then quickly back off - when you turn it off, you can't turn it back on for 30 days.

If you host your own instance, even if it's just YOU on that instance, you need to read this and consider taking action to protect yourself and your moderation team.

I feel like there is a huge divide among developers on social media. Many are true innovators that create new things and have heated debates over each small component. It's exciting to read.

The rest of us quietly maintain those innovations 15 years later with duct tape and prayers to the search gods, keeping the current internet spinning.

Both groups are needed, but maintainers tend to get overlooked.

A toast to the roadside mechanics of the internet.
