Freshman Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden reportedly yelled and cursed at a group of high school-aged Senate pages while giving a late-night tour of the US Capitol.

@w7voa He's still mad he didn't get to have any combat scenes in Act of Valor.

Did he also explain how slaves developed "recovery skills" from being separated from their children, whipped, raped, beaten to a pulp, and worked to death?

Via Acyn:

Watters: This is historical fact that slaves did develop skills while they were enslaved and then used those skills as blacksmiths, in agriculture, tailoring, in the shipping business, to benefit themselves and their families..

@GottaLaff Watters and DeSantis both kidnapped, beaten, and forced into hard labor for the rest of their lives, but by the time their grandchildren are forced to go through it as well, you know, the kids have learned farming skills.

I wonder what movie it was.

@lowqualityfacts it was The Rock's trailer on Black Adam. It took eight hours to ride from one end to the other in a studio golf cart.

It turns out, actual engineering is a lot harder than software engineering, and this is something you should keep in mind as people start to claim ChatGPT can do a better job.

@emilygorcenski I feel like I rarely (read: never) see the Swiss cheese layering software model.

I wish people knew how many hobbies (or at least hobby communities) they push people away from by aggressively talking down to people who are also interested. It’s not even necessarily intentional gatekeeping. It’s just making people who want to enjoy that interest feel like idiots by trying to prove they’re smart constantly and not having a two-way conversation. Like ripping something apart out of their hands to “do it better” without asking. It happens all the time.

@bransonturner@mastodon.social avatar

@hacks4pancakes I have left hobbies due to "teachers" that were just frustrated non-professionals. They didn't actually want to teach, they just needed to pay the bills because they couldn't make it as a pro. They were a miserable lot.

    I’m sick and tired of hearing this lie peddled by the GOP and corporate media. Raising the debt ceiling does not increase spending or the federal debt. It simply allows the government to pay bills it has already taken on— and defaulting on the debt would be catastrophic.

    @bransonturner@mastodon.social avatar

    @rbreich who has Biden's ear to tell him to simply say the debt ceiling increase is to pay off Trump's tax cut. No increase, taxes reinstated.

    “We can’t afford to pay our writers more.”

    Meanwhile, media company CEO pay is through the roof:

    Netflix CEOs: $51M & $50M
    Nexstar CEO: $39M
    Warner Bros. Discovery CEO: $39M
    Comcast CEO: $32M
    Paramount CEO: $32M
    Walt Disney CEO : $24M
    AMC: $24M
    Fox Corp CEO : $22M

    @rbreich reposting, just for you! 😀

    Just so I understand: , who've spent millions of $ over the years changing US laws to ensure that anyone using their work has to pay fees every time they use it (in perpetuity), don't want to pay the writers fees for the moneymaking work they create for Disney every time Disney uses it (in perpetuity)?
