I've been enjoying the Fallout TV series. I know nothing about the game or whatever it's based on (I don't play games) but I don't feel like I'm missing out. (Perhaps I am, but it doesn't feel frustrating.)
@brucelawson I think she lied to you. To be affected by lack toes intolerance more than one toe would be missingโฆ so either you did not disclose missing toes in the other foot, or she found you otherwise lacking ๐
Another day, another recruiter trying to fill a role "delivering a digital experience that is genuinely inclusive for all" that requires the employee to commute (presumably in rush hour) 3 days a week to an office (presumably noisy and open plan) and doubtless carrying any assistive tech they need with them.
I heard that a teacher from my high school has died. She never taught me, but obvz I knew her and -unusually for snotty teen me- I liked her. Facebook is full of names I haven't heard for 40 years saying things like "Mrs H. was the only one that believed in me and told me I was a better person" and "I was one of the problem pupils, yet she showed me nothing but respect and compassion, I was quite destructive but she always appreciated what was going on for me, and I carried her kind words with me for many years". What a legacy.
I picked up this swag at a React conference. I mentioned to the bloke on the PornTube booth that it's really bad for their brand to suggest that you'd need something else to occupy your hands, and he looked really crestfallen.
I simultaneously wish I were better at Javascript (specifically: could think in a JS way), yet can't be arsed to learn it because it's fugly and someone will waterboard me with Typescript evangelism.
@mattwilcox My attention wanders between the 9 chapters on "this is a loop, this is a variable" and "first, we extend the prototype constructor object to map our arrays to the m-brane tesseract quantumknickers" and I'm lost. @scottjenson
Excited to be here at CERN preparing to fire a blast of Higgs Tachyons into the solar eclipse in order to fulfill Revelations 6:94 and start the Rapture.
My modest proposal: Failing water companies should go bankrupt, their investors lose everything, their boards and C-suites be fired, and the gov should buy them for ยฃ1 and run them as national utilities. Ditto the railways and privatised energy orgs that price-gouged us last 2 winters. Then every statue of Thatcher & her ideological allies should be melted down and turned into commemorative medals to celebrate the day we free ourselves of the stupidity that saw the nations' utilities and housing stock sold to profiteering wideboys.
Here's how it will go. Water Co will got tits-up. Holding company walks away with no debt. Buys back company-in-admin for 1p, debts written off. The bills of all water users increase to cover bad debt.
@brucelawson And for some additional context: there was a time in the 1990โs, and extending into the 2000โs, when neo-liberal fever gripped Singapore.
A lot of previously-nationalised companies were privatised, and where companies were already technically privatised, their primary industries were liberalised. Telecommunications, public transit, national TV, print media - you name it, they privatised and/or liberalised it.
Sometimes, if Iโm fixing an unrelated bug I spot the opportunity to make a quick โdrive-byโ accessibility tweak that is quick and easy and will give a disproportionately big boost to the user experience for people with accessibility needs. Here are some of my top faves (number 3 will have you in tears!). https://brucelawson.co.uk/2024/drive-by-accessibility-tweaks/
