Yesterday was the birthday of Michael Hampton, guitarist and interpreter of Maggot Brain (by Parliament/Funkadelic). Though he didn't write the song, he keeps the work alive. If you have no idea what I am referring to, you should find out. This watercolor sketch is from 3 years ago.

In honor of Oscar Wilde's birthday October 16, here's a not very accurate animation I did of him a few years ago. Before you say "take on me", yeah, I get it. But know that rotoscopy without something to trace is difficult to do. This is about 100 freehand sketches in sequence.

Yesterday was Suggs' birthday (Graham McPherson), singer frontman for Madness. I should have sketched the whole band, but that's harder. Madness was such a great band, and so influential over the years. My sketch from yesterday.

I'm stubbornly continuing to draw on the wrong side of this accordion book. It still works even if it's like drawing on a wool blanket. But it's , and what better way to celebrate? Today is Saturday, and the coffee shop has a new crew of people who aren't yet tired of being drawn in the way that the mid-week regulars are.

This is a bit of my accordion book opened on the coffee bar at the cafe. The front side where the technique was easier to control. Just like any project, I was able to finish it by lowering my standards.

Here's a of Paper Lace (band of the 70s, Night Chicago Died). Why I'd bother doing this... something about forms of the spectacle during my adolescence, something about mystification that they became famous, a formal game of technique with a brush. I don't feel free unless I give time to the oddest thing possible. This post lets you know that there is now an object in this world like this.

I’m at dad’s place(very old). In the entry there’s this sketch of mine from 35 years ago. I traveled to Europe and sketched as I went. In this postcard-sized sketch I like the sense of atmosphere. All my sketches at the time were done on site.

Cristobal Balenciaga's birthday was January 21. I don't know much about fashion, but I do like 20th century design history, and he did inventive clean shapes that were famous in mid-century. My sketch from today.

My from yesterday to honor Vivienne Westwood, who would have had a birthday Apr 9. She defined the punk look and style in the mid 70s. Punk was as visual as it was audible. The look she created changed everything.

D Boon's (minutemen) birthday would have been april 1st. He was in our town a few times, did a great show and lived his values, gone way too soon. One of the performers I feel luckiest to have seen and met. Still love "King of the Hill". My sketch from yesterday.
