US cops never turn out like this at Nazi rallies or school shootings, but against peaceful genocide protesters they bring their very best A game, huh? (Photo: Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times)
The fact that I’m 72 and nearing the end of this chaotic life is interesting. I would like to meet and talk with others who are dealing with this transition. It’s fascinating and no one wants to talk about it.
@OldAndCranky
I am 77. In june I lost my wife due to alzheimers. I have been her primary caregiver since 2016 and before. I sat with her as she took her last breath. Caretaking was hard and very stressful. My own health has been compromised.
I worry mostly about my animals. Who will care for them if I go? For a long time I didnt see myself as old. I worked at a 2y college as a librarian. So I was around young people allot just starting out in life. But now I feel old.
"The mother of Nex Benedict — the non-binary Oklahoma teen who was assaulted in a school bathroom and died the following day — is raising doubts about statements released by the local police. …
In a text exchange with Popular Information, Sue Benedict, Nex's mother, said she considered the Owasso Police statement a 'big cover' and believed it was only released as 'something to calm the people.'"
G’nite. Thinking about my mum who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last month. Didn’t see that coming. Miss her. Wish we lived closer. She called me twice today because she forgot my answer to her question. I better start emailing the content of our conversations. Keep well lovelies. My girls. 🥰
@Shanitoba
So sorry about your mom. You can find allot of good information concerning Alzheimer's at alz.org, Alzheimer's Association. My wife suffered from the disease. @oldredsubby
@MaJ1
One of my first computer involved jobs was backing up disk packs that were then exchanged with another set and placed in a secure vault. These were part of a library circulation system. Disk drives looked like washing machines. @oldredsubby@NormanDunbar@PaulNickson
Christians in America are so deluded. They still state that America was founded on Christian values.
The reason the Constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli specify that America is not a Christian country was because of…well, Christianity. The Christian Putitanical theocratic community prior to the Constitution had allowed demented Christians to burn, torture, hang and imprison innocent people. The Constitution assured Freedom from that theocratic insanity.
@SpockResists
Christianity, or one version of Christianity has become molded into a political weapon intended to manipulate people's thoughts. These people are disingenuous, ugly.
Hitler did the same thing. He molded Jesus into an aryan blond god with no empathy. @GhostOnTheHalfShell
A few weeks ago I wrote about a trans man who was beaten by a sheriff's deputy, then criminally charged for resisting arrest. The whole thing was caught on 711 surveillance camera.
Yesterday, prosecutors agreed to drop the charges.
I sincerely hope Threads follows through with their plan to federate. It will give other Fediverse users a controlled pipeline to the zeitgeist.
By judiciously following Threaders here we’ll be able to have safe access to the people, news, and brands we could never convince to use Mastodon without having to submerse ourselves into the massive, undifferentiated flood of info over there.
“When I ran for president, I was told that the days of bipartisanship is over and Democrats and Republicans could no longer work together. I refuse to believe that. The only way American democracy can function is through compromise and consensus.”
@hosford42
I am being jumped on for criticizing Bidens comments over being bipartisan, I think. One person wants to block me. Am I not allowed to politely disagree? @Sunspot@AgentCarter
Mastodon is an incredibly rare opportunity for open-source, non-profit, advertising-free, decentralised software to be a real contender in a category – and, if it continues to grow, even to pull many other social networks into being part of (or interoperable with) the fediverse.
It's strange to me that this isn't mentioned more in the endless opinions about features, onboarding, UX, "vibes" etc.
@stephstephking
So what is so complicated about using mastodon? I just don't get it. If you don't like mastodon or don't feel comfortable here, then delete your account and find a social media site that suits you better. @tomw
The next time you hear conservatives complaining about “cancel culture,” remind them that some Republican lawmakers are actually banning books and expelling Democrats from state legislatures.
Bluesky was created by Jack Dorsey previous owner of twitter. It is supposed to be based on distributed networking similar to mastodon.
So is bluesky part of the fediverse or will this be a separate entity?
Don't know exactly what to say, but hoping for awareness of the plight of the Sudanese people during this war. There is not much being said on Mastodon. #sudancrisis #sudan
