https://amf.didiermary.fr/herbie-tsoaeli/

The quintessential South African jazz man, Herbie Tsoaeli is a largely self-taught bass virtuoso from Nyanga East, in Cape Town – one of the more politically charged black locations in the Western Cape.
Coming from this community at the forefront of producing South Africa’s rich jazz legacy, rooted in his biographical experiences, his music is a […]

A collection of Web3 Quotes, that I assembled over time (since 2020 or so), mainly from cryptoskeptics of course, but there might be a few from crytobros or Bitcoin maximalists, marked with 🤡, as sarcasm… if I find any worth of being published.

Remembering Moebius (Jean Giraud - 8 May 1938 - 10 March 2012), one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century.

"Giraud's penname Moebius first popped up in 1963, in a series of short stories published in Hara-Kiri. In later years, Moebius would become world famous for his science-fiction, artistic and erotic art. He is admired for his many collaborations with Alejandro Jodorowsky."

What's going with the Internet in western and southern Africa right now?

A lot of the region is currently experiencing Internet outages. @radar and IODA are both tracking the outages:

(hat tip to @dbelson for his great CloudflareRadar work!)

There are multiple reports on Twitter/X about "subsea cable cuts" from telecom companies... but even they are not definitive.

Anyone seeing clear statements?

@danyork @dbelson

There are 3 operators, in Benin, MTN, Moov and Celtiis ("state").
Seems 2 of them have problems (citing "international cables" as the reason). Moov, the one I use right now, is OK.

Osibisa, the “Flying Elephants”

https://amf.didiermary.fr/osibisa-flying-elephants/

Osibisa is a British Afro-pop band, founded by Teddy Osei in London in 1969 by four expatriate African (Ghana) and three Caribbean musicians. Osibisa were one of the first African bands to become widely popular, leading to claims of founding World Music. I discovered Osibisa when I was a teen, and this band is the […] …

There's unfortunately no video record of a fabled exchange between Joe Pyne (talk show host) and Frank Zappa.
According to Pyne lore, he invited his audience to “Say hello to a musician—and I use that term loosely—representing a rock ’n’ roll band known as the Mothers of Invention.”
Zappa, 24, nodded to the booing crowd.
Pyne looked him over and said, “I guess your long hair makes you a woman.”
Zappa shrugged. “I guess your wooden leg makes you a table.”
