@ElleGray You don't get that as part of a Tesco meal deal, that's for sure.

@hobbitswife I keep forgetting to watch Series 2. I loved Series 1, but you're right... it doesn't exactly make me want to visit Belfast.

This is why the uk high street is in trouble.

Go onto store website - product is £15
Go into store - product is £20
The store can't negotiate down to the website price. They're literally undercutting themselves

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@30yrdscreamer In my recent experience:

  • Store item is soiled
  • Store doesn't have range of sizes for you to try on
  • Store doesn't have range of colours so you can see what it actually looks like
  • Store is closed when it is convenient for me to shop

... but you can buy it online with free returns!

Youngest (8) came across Linkin Park on my random playlist.

He is now loudly singing along, over & over & it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Our kids have always listened to different decades of music I just find it funny that he loves something from 20+ years ago

Probably should say that the song he likes is ‘In the end’ - our Apple Music / Alexa has parental controls so he doesn’t find the sweary ones!

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@hobbitswife It's very strange when I hear late 90s house music being played by the 20 y/o students next door.

The funny thing about Microsoft's new Recall feature is how little actual "AI" it's doing. It's basically just making automatic screen captures, then running OCR and image recognition to create a semantic index you can search. Unless I'm missing something, there's no LLM (or small language model) used in it. Maybe in parsing queries?

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@ianbetteridge I can only assume that AI is suffering from the same ‘it's sexy, everything is AI' we suffer from at work with one of our mobile apps. It's the new sexy thing so everyone wants to 'integrate with the app' or in some way associate their project with the app even if they have no idea what they are talking about.

Legitimate interests… I wonder if that will get tested.
But objection applying “going forward”. Surely one can object to how data “was” used as well?

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@revk I objected and my objection was honoured within 15 minutes.

Most people won't object. I bet my wife didn't even read that notification.

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@revk You need to be logged in to see and submit the form. The facebook app annoyingly opens the form in a pop-up browser window and doesn't SSO you into Facebook. They must have designed this pattern to be annoying as possible.

Interesting… notification in Facebook telling me I can object to my data being used to improve AI at Facebook and that if my objection is honoured then that will be the case going forward.

I submitted the form and just got an email saying they will honour my objection.

I'm surprised this needs to be said but...

"If I have to give you an email address or phone number or worse, phone you to find out the price of your good or service I will never find out the price of your good or service".

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@yesterzine I'm good with the idea of an indicative price for things that can't be a fixed price. At least then I can form a vague idea of budget needed, likely quality, etc.

It's the same with job adverts not showing a salary range.

Village WhatsApp groups are such great spaces to find out how people think the internet works. Just write “is anyone having trouble with their internet?” And immediately you’ll get all kinds of bizarre theories about what to do to get it back. Today’s: “we had a power cut so it might take a while to come back on”

It's all going on in my street this evening. Lady walking her cat on an extendable lead. Unleashed dog, the size of a 12 year old, running around. Cat runs under a parked car. Lead gets tangled under the wheels. Man drives up looking for his dog, leaves car in middle of T junction. Dog runs away. Man chases dog. Man carries dog back to car with one arm under each doggy armpit. Woman with cat is now hugging the cat and looks distraught (the woman, not the cat).
