This morning Ireland officially recognised Palestine as an independent state. Our history of struggle and oppression has taught us the value of freedom and justice, and we always stand unwaveringly with the oppressed. I’m very proud to be Irish today

Well I have a shortlist.

First up, I think everyone did a bang up job, much better than I could have at any rate. However, we somehow have to whittle down the entries to just three to vote on, and as part of that process, I needed to shortlist a selection.

So without further ado, my shortlist is (in no particular order):

NRCI, KAST, TAUS, MIRR, ELAN, DEEP, RAIL, EATW & EMPW

Now to have a short break before re-listening to these to try to narrow it down further.

Can I entice you to listen to my 2023 album Psychedelic Ghost Stories? 10 tracks of weird, spacy post-industrial psychedelia, alien electro dub, & the music you hear in a bad dream. Wizard synth anthems and ghostwave jams; sounds like tripping on Halloween.

In Poland we have a saying:
"Człowiek człowiekowi wilkiem, a zombie zombie zombie". It means roughly "humans are like wolves to each other, but zombies are like zombies to each other". I might be paraphrasing a bit. And it is not actualy a real saying. And my translation loses the humor of the "saying".
But the song reminded me of it. Lol

Managed to listen to a dozen tracks and I found that about a third resonate with me the right way.
Which means I'm likely gonna end up with a 24-track "shortlist" (ahah) that I'll have to whittle down to three.

People, please stop being so talented, will you?

I worked from home today so I ended up spending most of the evening tweaking my home keyboard firmware to make it work better with the sorts of computery things I do for work.

damonism,
@damonism@aus.social avatar

What I usually do is make it work like a Mac – alt-hyphen for an en-dash and shift-alt-hyphen for an em-dash, but this keyboard has too few keys so the hyphen is on a layer, so that would be four keys for an em-dash, which requires a bit more dexterity than I typically possess.

Has anyone cracked the code yet? “Peaceful on the Surface” by Trebach (@trebach) has a message hiding in this track. I believe they’ve dropped a few hints on their profile for those sleuths among you. Nice job! Vote code CONF

If I understand correctly, “GeoGuessr Song” was unwittingly written by Wolfseule (@Wolfseule) here:

https://mastodon.social/@Wolfseule/112376088182601131

And this toot was turned into a song by Scott Hühnerkrisp (@ScottHuehnerkrisp) and that’s the story. It’s hilarious. I literally laughed out loud. Totally meme worthy. Vote code EAPO

For those trying to work out the puzzle in CONF, there are 3 pianos: one that plays through the entire song, one that plays in bits and pieces, and one that starts a few measures in and plays until the end of the song. The encoded message is buried in the third one.

More hints to come as the week goes on

trebach,
@trebach@functional.cafe avatar

Third hint for the puzzle in CONF: The third piano playing the message is only playing either D, F#, or A and only one note at a time

Today's is about your favorite album on physical media.

I have always adored Queen, they are my favourite band of all time and I have all their studio and live albums up to “Made In Heaven”.

That said, my favourite album of all time, from the vinyl my father played when I was very young, to the CD I ordered from eBay, is not a Queen album.

“The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast” is a ‘70s concept album written by Roger Glover after he left Deep Purple. Several great artists are featured on the tracks, notably:
• Glenn Hughes of Trapeze, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath.
• Ronnie James Dio of Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell.
• Jimmy Helms of Londonbeat.
• David Coverdale of Deep Purple and Whitesnake.
• John Lawton of Lucifer's Friend, Uriah Heep and the Les Humphries Singers.
• and several other great ‘70s talents!

The album follows a story based on a poem by William Roscoe, written in 1802, telling the story of a party for insects and other small animals.

The album cover design is from Alan Aldridge's design for a 1973 book based on the poem.
