I love #Oakland and its history. Part of what makes Oakland a great city are the people who live here.

You'll see a lot of #OaklandHistory toots, and some #TodayInOaklandHistory too.

And with 3 tuxedo cats, you'll see some #Caturday

Cows in La Creuse are really curious. They largely ignore cars but walk or cycle past them and they will come closer and or follow you as you go! 🥰

They do, in this 20-second video footage!

Sunny day, some clouds in the blue sky, green pastures and trees. In the meadow a large group of brown cows run alongside as I cycle on the road.

Bob Wakefield wisely said "I have a hard time believing that deities care about the outcome of sporting events..." 👍🏿

I agree. 100%!

That's how I learned the word "deism."

A college football teammate asked me why I didn't like prayers before games if I was supposedly a Christian.

I believe in God, but he's not here to save you when I manhandle the O-line and put hands on you. That's not how it works.

diygene,
@diygene@sfba.social avatar

@mekkaokereke I used to enjoy watching football. And then I learned about the damage it inflicts on the players, especially the brain damage the repeated blows can cause. Now I find it appalling that we subject people to this in the name of entertainment

Elton sends rainy greetings from his box. Given his big floofy tail, it took him several tries to actually get in his new box. But now he is very proud of his box and being able to get in it.

I've been a bit absent on here lately, as I've not been well. (Hopefully on the mend soon.)
However, as you can see, I have lots of help with household chores. Zaz couldn't quite work out how to put up the laundry rack, though. I suggested she just stick to cleaning the dishes.

Happy everyone, from the gang here - Zaz, Pangolin, Badger and Joni (and Steven, of course).

@catsofmastodon

A young tabby cat is perched on thin metal bars on a partly folded laundry rack, looking to our left. behind is a room with sofa, bright windows, wood floor and a blue laundry basket. There is also an erected laundry rack whose arms are raised so they almost look like wings on the cat.

diygene,
@diygene@sfba.social avatar

@EllieK June, Anita, and Elton hope you get well soon 🐱

Elton likes to help with our drying rack, too, though it's a bit more kitty-friendly being made of wooden dowels.

Help me out, Oakland/East Bay bike tooters

I’m looking for the best route from South Berkeley to Oyster Bay Park in San Leandro

I took the northern route Google suggested (screenshot) and it wasn’t great. I didn’t mind the traffic, but very poor pavement and lots of debris

Is it worth going down to Jack London and following the waterfront?

Is there anyway to cut through Alameda?

diygene,
@diygene@sfba.social avatar

@peterbutler I would go down to JLS. There can be a fair number of people walking along the waterfront, but I find following the Bay Trail a very pleasant route.

I'd take Telegraph to downtown, then jog over a bit to go through Old Oakland since drivers can be aggressive on lower Broadway

It's possible to cut over through Alameda, but I find the route on the east side of San Leandro Bay more pleasant as it maximizes time in the MLK Shoreline Park.

@colburn is a big fan of the MLK Shoreline Park route, and may be able to tell you current conditions

It will never be flu. Following it and surveying for it like we do for flu will never be adequate in this country.”

@jennyzilliac I mask indoors with crowds, like at the grocery. I had stopped, but started up again a couple of weeks ago when numbers started trending upwards again

My brother-in-law currently has it (though is doing fine now with Paxlovid), which supports my earlier choice

I'm not sure if it's at the level yet to make me change plans for indoor events that are coming up (e.g., some author events at the Oakland Library), but I'm internally debating that now

diygene,
@diygene@sfba.social avatar

@jennyzilliac Between having had COVID once (back when Paxlovid was first becoming available; I didn't get any, but my wife did and recovered quickly) and hearing about the effects of long COVID, it didn't take much to convince me

diygene,
@diygene@sfba.social avatar

September 2, 1950, Children's Fairyland first opened! Admission was 9 cents for children under 12, and 14 cents for everyone else.

In the original design, adults had to stoop down and pass through the shoe, the same as children. Children's Fairyland also once had its own tiny post office.
