@thegamerstavern it boggles the mind: even with a 'reject all' option (that is not often there at all) there is still a long list of parties with 'legitimate interest' (whatever the fork that is) and after you've swiped all of those to oblivion then there often is a list of 'vendors' that also all want a piece of the pie. Vendors list not being influenced by the earlier 'reject ' and counting 50 or 60 entries.... much? 😑

Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.

What I wish more people understood about obesity: you can do everything right and still be fat.

Take me. I'm in the gym every single day. Last night, I ran 5km (3.1 miles). Afterwards, I cycled for 20 solid minutes.

Earlier in the week, I bench-pressed 91kg (200lbs). I followed that up with 100 kettlebell squats with a 10kg (22lbs) weight. I don't look like I can do any of that stuff, and I've had people in the gym tell me so.

And yet, I stand 173cm (5'8") and weigh 100kg (220lbs). That means I have a BMI of 33 which technically makes me obese.

Am I eating too much? No, I often have a daily deficit of 500-1,000 calories. Yet, over the course of this year, I've gained 2.27kg (5lbs).

Visually, do I look less fat? Yes, but I'm still fat. I'm going to keep working on this, but I'm under no illusion I will hit my "ideal" weight of 62.5kg (138lbs).

I should state that I'm not even looking to reach some optimum level of health. I'm just trying to be more healthy than I was 3 years ago, which was pretty damn unhealthy.

However, I now know, based on speaking with my doctor, that certain things simply can't be helped. Recently, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. This is likely genetic since this condition runs in the family. Sleep apnea affects the body's ability to regulate weight, as well as recovery in general. I can exercise and diet to my heart's content, but for the moment, sleep apnea will be a barrier.

(Please don't reply with how to "fix" sleep apnea, I've already had that conversation with my doctor. This isn't a post asking for advice.)

Despite this barrier, I will continue to do the work in the gym. It's made my life much better. Because of the gym, my back no longer hurts. I'm less tired. My resting heart rate has decreased.

Nevertheless, I'm still fat 🤷‍♂️

    Today I lost my favourite little buddy in the world, Luki. Always happy. Always surprisingly smart and the most empathic dog I've ever met. After picking him up at the shelter he was a light in our lives every day. 10 years isn't a whole lot for this race, but it stings a little extra because we didn't have him for the first couple. This pic was the last one I took of him and I'm going to miss that sight so much today 😭. Rest in peace, little buddy. The very, very best boy.
