It should be part of the latest develop release tomorrow, if you want to see it in real life. But be warned, pretty much the only things that work are in the video ;-).

Running your own e-mail server might seem complicated and geeky but will you trust those US based megacorps managing your digital existence once Trump gets elected? Especially when you’re not an US citizen? I decided many years ago.

@rysiek I used their dedicated servers for more than 15 years and was a very happy customer throughout all this time, but I have moved all my workloads (incl. mail - which might be worth to couple with a floating IP) a few years ago to their cloud instances which are cheap, performant and really easy to manage.

@768kb especially when a council's budget is tight, investing in cycling is the financially sound choice, since its infrastructure is far cheaper while providing way more capacity per unit of investment and surface area required.
Furthermore, cyclist spend more on local businesses than car users which don't stop that spontaneously. Cars also mean, people might take longer trips for shopping and thereby carry people's money out of town where no local tax revenue is generated.

BTW: It's just a horrible wrapper around legacy installers. For Linux-style package management, Windows would have to undergo fundamental changes regarding it's filesystem structure and application handling.
Not saying it can't be done, but it's IMHO unlikely to happen any soon.

    @isotopp didn't you publish an article once regarding the lifecycle of declarative configuration DSLs, getting enriched with templating, then logic and finally going back to pure data structures? I fail to find it on your blog but could really much use it as a reference right now for $reasons ☺️

    With the news that Google is going to "supercharge" Maps with "AI" (and the poor results I've had with Apple Maps), I finally checked out OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/

    OMG THIS IS AMAZING. So much more useful detail! Incredible! Going to dig up an app for my phone and use this for a while to see how it compares to the ad- and AI-ridden nonsense.

    Ueber 75 Verkehrs- und Tarifverbuende in Deutschland, plus mehr als 450 dafuer taetige Unternehmen!

    Muss man sich erstmal leisten koennen, aber offenbar war bisher fuer eine derart zur Schau getragene Ineffizienz immer noch genug Geld da. Unterschiedliche Verkehrsmittel, Designs, Ausstattungen, Uniformen, Ticketautomaten, Infrastrukturen, Software... in 🇩🇪 🙈

    @Fparianen ich denke, das wird sich vor allem irgendein Zahlungsanbieter jetzt richtig schön über die Erschließung einer neuen Zielgruppe freuen. Und wir kippen - aus reiner Verachtung gegenüber geflüchteten Mitmenschen - solchen Unternehmen jetzt noch schubkarrenweise Geld vor die Tür.

    "Böse GDL" hier, "GDL nervt" da...

    An keiner Stelle hört man Aussagen wie "Kein Verständnis für die Bahn, ihre Mitarbeiter so zu behandeln" oder "Dank der GDL, von deren Kampf für mehr Gerechtigkeit letztlich alle Arbeitnehmer profitieren werden".

    Failure stories are not necessarily disappointing (in the long run) - 4-5 years ago I have tried to become Go developer. Initially did some learning myself and started applying. While my attempts to score :golang: job failed, some companies not only challenged me with intricate tasks, but also provided with useful tips where to improve and how to learn more.

    One of examples - on-site task at Uber to create a minefield command line application with some logic from classic Minesweeper game. Allocated time was far too little to develop something working under interview stress, but later I managed to put together an application at home, at my own pace. I think I'm gonna document it properly and publish as tiny open source project, because I've learned some useful ideas in the process. Needless to say, I wasn't hired.

    Now it's nothing major really, but later I managed to contribute a few bits to lightweight blogging platform @writefreely and make tiny improvements to :aws_logo: Lambda Function example.

    Currently I am putting together little working API server application with :postgresql: connection pooler and external OAuth provider support to show how basic API tooling works together - will post it as project later this year 🤓️

    Never give up doing what you are interested into! Even if you get "not good enough" somewhere or everywhere, do it as a hobby, improve and enjoy!

    @gytisrepecka 90% of the knowledge and experiences that helped me kickstart my IT carrier were acquired through being part of various projects as teen since the late 90's.
    And wouldn't I have kept doing so, I'd be locked into a weird silo of proprietary enterprise software that's +10 years behind the current state of the art.

    @Loukas at no point, did she make up any excuses for the actions of Israel - it's about not blindly supporting Hamas right after the attacks.

    One can condemn the actions of the Israeli government, without denying Israel's right to exist.
    One can condemn Hamas' actions while grieving for all the injustices that the Palestine population was subjected to.

    This whole discussion is once about to become a an either/or topic, just as too many before - void of any nuance.
