The final act 🙇‍♂️

Came in to remove the remaining items from my office, less than five hours before I cease to be a ESA staff member 🥺

But I’ve left one important thing here, to remind whoever comes next of just what Europe can achieve when the brilliant talents of its scientists, engineers, communicators, administrators, & managers combine to take on ambitious goals 🚀🛰️☄️

A video of the empty interior of my office at ESA’s ESTEC in Noordwijk. There are chairs, cabinets, & tables, & on one of those tables is a black 3D model of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the comet that ESA’s Rosetta spacecraft rendezvoused with in 2014 & deployed the Philae lander to its surface.

The Horrendous Space Kablooie 🚀💥😬

Another find in my ESA office as I clear it out ahead of my imminent departure: some fragments recovered from the explosion of the first Ariane 5 flight V88 / 501 on 4 June 1996, carrying the four Cluster magnetospheric satellites 🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️

The satellites were rebuilt & successfully launched on two Soyuz rockets in 2000: they are still in operation today, although their end is near now 🥺

@DemocracySpot at Bremen we had bad weather at 5 C (all day long). So your clouds impressed me ( beside all your nice exposures). Yesterday I took pictures from our flight tower. (otherwise mostly fotos from skies over planes runway )

🥁 🥁 Hier kommt die Auflösung: Was hat Wikipedia mit Kaffeefiltern zu tun?

Heute vor 5 Jahren war die deutschsprachige Wikipedia nicht nutzbar. Die Online-Enzyklopädie zeigte einen schwarzen Bildschirm mit Text. Kaffeefilter kamen bei einer Wikimedia-Aktion zum Einsatz. Das verbindende Element: Beides war Teil einer europaweiten Proteswelle gegen die EU-Urheberrechtsreform & Upload-Filtern.

Ugh. Most depressing Dutch commute ride in ages 😬

Roughly 80% of other cyclists on e-bikes, including many kids as young as ten. So many on those awful fat bikes 🙁

One dude passed me on an s-pedelec doing 40km/h, without legally required plates & helmet 😠

Souped-up moped passed me aggressively doing 80km/h+ on the bike path, also illegal 😡

Finally, massive black Humvee accelerated & illegal crossed multiple lanes at a roundabout so he could cut me off 🤬

Some days, honestly … 🤷‍♂️

guess your ride was on streets that are not in the big city centers. Maybe even offside a city. Bremen is not too big. But devided by the river there are really dense traffic bottlenecks and many narrow road works even on bigger bridges. The pedelecs drivers are still driving me mad by driving madly keeping their speed. 😡

@mkwadee Conrad was a funny joker on his own. He won a bet with a journalist about the 1st words when stepping on the moon. A man bet that Nasa wouldn't allow Conrad to say whatever he want (speculating on Neils famous words)

Every movie is advertised by its stars of actors or its director. They have a famous history to get known. You describe here rather about anonymous characters . However AI may even have created such types of roles or an industry that has made its name or brand you hardly distinguish from real persons

@harriorrihar Actually I admit I missed almost all of them. On the other hand if you saw or like them then I am not sure how much difference still is to the AI movies . I guess animated films are really simple to create by AI. Even if you don't like them then many other may appreciate animated AI movies 🤔🙄

Ich bin schon fassungslos. Welche Gründe die leider hier ungenannte Firma ( warum? @NDR ) wohl hinter der Ausrede verschleiert? (Umsatzeinbußen ?) . Nochmal fassungslos, daß die Einsicht zur Zulassung der Einstellung fehlt. Ohne Arbeitsvertrag nach Urteil hätte die Strafe höher ausfallen müssen.

American mathematician and aerospace engineer Mary Jackson died in 2005.

In 1951 she started working at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), where she was a member of its West Area Computing unit and Jackson’s supervisor was Dorothy Vaughan. Despite early promotions, she was denied management-level positions, and in 1979 she left engineering and took a demotion to become manager of the women’s program at NASA.

The answer " Any kind of book" ( Gutenberg) is a bit misleading. Where are books about Margaret Hamilton? How many kind of books exist about Hedy Lamarrs Invention (WW2) that don't deal with her 6 husbands or her hollywood films ? Where are books about the women that built ENIAC computer?
