I have to teach tomorrow, but for many students in a college town--as it once was, so shall it always be, Alpha et Omega--the weekend begins tonight, on Thirsty Thursday.

for statistics her only Shuttle flight was STS-47 on 12.9 1992-20.9. and the 10th SpaceLab Mission ( german built Lab). Commander was Robert Gibson, his 1st was 10th STS41B with 2nd black astronaut R.McNair, died on Challenger desaster. (The 50th and 100th STS also with him ) experienced with 5 STS starts and now 6 real apprentices including 1st japan astron. The experimental tasks were biological and semiconductor kind .STS 47 had the 1st married couple on board 🥰

CEOs are hugely expensive. Why not automate them?
If a single role is as expensive as thousands of workers, it is surely the prime candidate for robot-induced redundancy.

I find my best mobile Mastodon experience is in a mobile browser (usually Firefox). I find it just as easy to navigate as any app and I also have access to all my lists and settings. I just reloaded the apps this evening to see if I felt improvement (I did not).

What’s your preferred mode of mobile Mastodon? Feel free to add details in the replies.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe completed its 17th close approach to the Sun yesterday Sept. 27, 2023 at 7:28 p.m. EDT. At perihelion, it was at a record distance of 7.26 million km from the solar surface, racing by at a record speed of 635,266 km/h.

The spacecraft will transmit science data from the encounter back to Earth from Oct 4 to Oct 19.

For comparison, the perihelion of planet Mercury is at 45.3 mil km.

Die Datenschützer & Sicherheitsexperten haben schon unzählige Male oben im Tanzsaal Alarm geschlagen. Aber dort wird noch Champagner getrunken, die Kapelle spielt irgendwas. Die hören nicht, dass das Ganze untergeht. 🌊

merkwürdiger Vergleich. 🙄 Es gibt genug Rettungsboote und einen Crash bei MS , wie gerade bei VW, hat es wohl nicht gegeben. Daß ein IT-Riese wegen Datenschutzmangel volläuft und untergeht grenzt an Halluzination und verzweifelter Hilflosigkeit, fehlender Realitätssinn, dieser Vergleich. 😥

Bei "Verkalkung" besonderer Art (also nix mit Härtegrad v. Wasser) , d.h zweifelhaften Rückständen, werden zum Ausspülen immer wieder "Wunderheilmittel" kolportiert. Naja, die beiden Haushaltsmittel, die billig und effektiv sind, kennt ja eigentlich jeder: Essigsäure (Essenz) und Natron, sogar noch billiger als Waschnatron in Discountern. Also, bei Abflussrohren wirkt es.

Natronlauge kann umgekehrt (pH-extrem) nur mit Salzsäure verglichen oder neutralisiert werden. Und ich würde von beidem abraten. Mit Natron oder Waschnatron meinte ich nur Natriumbicarbonat ( Na CO3 geht auch). Das Pulver ist völig harmlos, entfaltet mit Essig-Essenz aber seinen ganzen Zauber 😎

Ich bin mal einem Tip gefolgt, meine grauen T-Shirts 1 Tag in Terpentin einzulegen. Ausgewrungen, mit Seife Hand-vorgewaschen hab ich es bei 60° in die Maschine gebracht. Der Dichtungsring in der Fronttür hat sich immer noch sch***** darnach angefühlt. 🤤😆

on Sept. 17, 1976, NASA rolled out its first space shuttle, named the Enterprise, from its manufacturing plant in Palmdale, California.

The ceremony was attended by 600 invited guests and 185 media representatives.

As Enterprise emerged from the hangar, the Air Force Band of the Golden West from March Air Force Base in Riverside County, CA, played Alexander Courage’s Star Trek musical score.

Here on social platform I really miss how you miss the astronauts names : Especially Fred Haise, Apollo13 who got the clear pledge for one real STS in space. Also with A13 he was really prof Astronaut and shocked proofed in space . NASA later dissmissed him so he left NASA middle 79. Engle, Joe also candidate for moon or Skylab startet on STS-2. And even followed up by STS -51 later.

My sister has just lent me Chris Van Tulleken’s Ultra-Processed People, itself “processed” by her dog enthusiastically carrying it around the house for a couple of weeks. Apparently it was his favourite carry toy, and I’ve just temporarily deprived him of it.

in pandemic times and while locked down or locked in I took my VHS tape Short Cuts (1993) from Robert Altman because of its over length play time 3h . My panasonic player still has a smooth sound . Am I saying I am "not-so-old" ? 😉However I became thoughtfull in pandemic time even without " short cuts" because the pandemie didnot allow any short cut any more

Mein Rewatch () hat mich schon wieder zum Serien-Junkie gemacht. Am Ende der 1.Staffel wird Kasper zu Kenneth und (läßt) äschert seinen Vater alleine ein - nicht ganz, Katrine tritt ein und hält ihm die Hand, obwohl er seinen Vater abgrundtief hasste. ( wurde sex. missbraucht). Es waren vor 10 Jahren Pilou Asbaecks allerstärksten Szenen. Und die haben gar nix mit "Politiken" zu tun. Erklären aber alles über Kasper Juul.

It took more than a year before I get to know this series from him. I know many of his work even since 1990 . In germany the years 2015 ( with Merkel's agreemen) and now 2022 are crucial for millions of immigrants. These days we got new laws from Olaf Scholz about restricting rules. But our right wing party held 15-20% votes in the election in bavaria and hessia. Reminding on Burn's work let people think over.
