you cannot compare regional slow express versus long distant ICE "grand vitesse". The latter needs a goods carrier where you set up your bike as a luggage. Then you have urban mix with much more customer density versus country side transport. There is never one solution for a flexible bike. It must follow german diversity.😘

Once again the news and social media are full of stuff about an upcoming .

🌕 The 's orbit around the Earth is elliptical. Sometimes it's a bit closer and thus looks a tad bigger, but the difference is barely noticeable. It's not even remotely close to "super".

The Moon is always pretty, there's no need to wait for fabricated "events" to look up and enjoy it!

It's a pity that a discussion about a 'blue moon' is missing or eclipsed by a meaningless supermoon. Blue Moon means a follow up full moon FM in the same season. Remember, recent FM was on 1.8. Means we have a rare 2nd FM in august. 😃

New science result from the Chandrayaan-3 mission - the temperature profile below the lunar surface at the lander site, measured using ChaSTE (Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment).

The temp. in this case decreases with depth, because it is daytime, the surface is heating up while the sub-surface is cooler, insulated by the lunar surface material.

The graph will flip during nighttime when the surface cools while the sub-surface remains warmer.

thanks for this thoroughfull descrption. I am not sure if I understood why we should return to moon. However I AM SURE that younger or many others never understood why we landed already in the past. They still believe NASA came to stay there ( false) Maybe they feel rather than knowing that we return to the moon because russians are again our enemies. Without the russians we never would have even think about moon landing 50 y ago.

So, that's the moment where I can recall my first uni Unix system called 'Cadmus'. It's a pure German 80ies development from Munich and a MIPS system V adaption called Munix ( Unix from Munich). They migrated to Digital-Kienzle (Kienzle was famous watch company also engineering electronics all kind ) eventually into DEC terminals

Nature in the raw.

Was walking from my office shed to the house & spotted some insect predators at work. I only had moments to grab my DSLR & these quick photos, so excuse the quality.

First, a robber or assassin fly (Asilidae of some kind) sucking out the insides of its victim, another fly. Yuk.

Second, a European hornet (Vespa crabro) hanging from a holly bush leaf, finishing off the wasp I saw it flying with moments before.

My studies about US presidents tought me that No , Andrew Johnson was in a heavy impeachment trial during reconstruction after civil war. He helped the south and ignored his complete cabinet. And it wasn't only one indictment (11?). Ahem, what about natives, first nations genocide? Sorry, no indictment ever 😪However Canada and Australia released official regrets.

Verbote sind eigentlich kein gutes Mittel. Offenbar träumen deren Befürworter, damit wären die Ursachen für deren Wählerschaft quasi per Verbot gelöst. Ein Verbot macht nur dann kurzfristig Sinn, wenn eine unmittelbare Gefährdung abgewendet werden könnte. Das ist natürlich bei der AfD nicht der Fall, weil es ein langfristiges Phänomen ist. Somit löst ein Verbot als Reflex kein gesellschaftl. Problem. Aus diesem Grund hat ein Parteienverbot so hohe Hürden dank unserer Gesetze.

    Oooh dear! What a huge misery and long long lament 😯 However we shouldnot forget how GB never complied to any kind of social values of the EU. They are crying because of a lost market to feed their financial ("The London City") values only. And of course for the student Erasmus exchange. And for rock music groups that got a burocratic monster. (and many other) But joining Europe? Never 😑

However I'm scared to death that in Arabia the heads of COP28 (summit) are the heads of fossil oil/ gas multis. They captured COP! Thanks, Al.     Decided to change the wallpaper to something else.

    Hard to decide on which wallpaper I should go with so.. which one do you prefer?

    And here's another book I’ve just finished, for anyone who has studied (or is studying) maths. It’s a lovely gallop through the parts of mathematical history that we don’t hear about, steering away from the stories that focus on the “Great Men” of the white western world, and digging around in a far more global and diverse view of how mathematics was developed. Especially highly recommended for anyone teaching maths at any level. It’s out in a couple of weeks.
