I'm very excited about 's hard sails. The vessel will be transporting to the Kourou launchpad.

The semi-rigid hard sails are expected to provide a 30%-50% fuel reduction depending on the wind direction. This has huge potential to reduce emissions of maritime transport.

Engine powered off, the ship sailed at 9.4 knots at a 50° wind bearing with a 19 knots wind, which is quite impressive.

AOG Technics Ltd, a London-based airplane parts distributor laundered thousands of used CFM56 turbine parts, forging documentation certifying them as new.
The parts landed in hundreds of aircrafts around the world.

The fraudster made millions of British pounds in profit at the expense of traveller's safety.

Elon Musk has floated solving the DSA compliance problem by simply removing the app from the European Union, which only counts for 9% of daily active users.

That would create a very segmented social media landscape with X and Threads not being able available to EU users. https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-considering-taking-twitter-x-out-of-europe-dsa-2023-10?r=US&IR=T

💬🔒⚛️ Delighted to announce iMessage PQ3, our formally-verified protocol for end-to-end encryption that provides the strongest post-quantum protections against “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” attackers by not only performing a quantum-secure key establishment, but also performing post-quantum ongoing rekeying.

Support for PQ3 will start to roll out with the public releases of iOS 17.4, iPadOS 17.4, macOS 14.4, and watchOS 10.4

~100 more Starlink v1 satellites will be burning up in the upper atmosphere in the next 6 months, bringing up the total number of de-orbited Starlink satellites to ~500 out of 6000 launched
https://api.starlink.com/public-files/Commitment%20to%20Space%20Sustainability.pdf

De-orbiting satellites by burning them up did work when the volume of satellites was small, but already 10% of aerosol particules in the stratosphere contain aluminum/other metals.
The problem is only going to get worse with the launch of megaconstellations https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2313374120

I was recently discussing this with colleagues, this carrot-based Salmon vegan substitute is the best one I know if you have a Salmon bagel craving 🥯🍣

As the back of the packaging says, just carrots, no fishy business

What are some of your favorite substitutes?

Hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Google & Amazon are deploying an increasing amount of custom silicon.

But what's the case for actually doing that? Any good reads on how that silicon is more competitive than Qualcomm/Intel/AMD/... off-the-shelf silicon?
Is it the inability to get large supplies of ARM chips at competitive prices?

“LLMs not only fail to properly generate correct Python code when default function names are swapped, but some of them even become more confident in their incorrect predictions as the model size increases, an instance of the recently discovered phenomenon of Inverse Scaling, which runs contrary to the commonly observed trend of increasing prediction quality with increasing model size”

Anyone who has been following the stuff understand the goals?

This distinction between online and off-line transactions don't make much sense to me.
"the tradeoff should be resolved by ensuring a high privacy for offline transactions of digital euros, similarly to cash transactions, while applying the anti-money laundering standards of today’s private digital payments to online transactions of digital euros”

Spent the day in learning things about , they have been such a source of fascination for me, especially when thinking about a greener path for aviation.

It's hard to grasp how large they were and the comfort of travel that they allowed.

I also had no idea that Z(eppelin)F, the car transmission company, originated as building the transmission for the Zeppelins 😧

Airships best days are now well past us ...

This morning someone boarded the bus with an inflated standup paddle, which is not uncommon here in the summer, and often happens with skis/snowboards/… in winter.

What was funny was to see the reaction of tourists who clearly weren’t used to such use of public transportation.

While EVs are addressing air pollution from combustion, they are making microplastics pollution (which can end up in the air) worse by being heavier vehicles.

And the heavier a vehicle is, the more wear on the tyres there will be.

So taking a bike instead of a heavy electric SUV makes a big difference for the lungs, water quality and environment of your fellow town folks!

☀️⚡️🇸🇪Just learned about the Swedish Exeger wearable solar cells.

It's really cool tech, I would definitely use solar-recharged bicycle lights or a solar recharged remarkable e-paper tablet since I use it mostly to read in bright light.🚵

I also like the palette of styles that the solar cells can have. Make solar cells fashionable and people will put them all over :)
