💬🔒⚛️ Delighted to announce iMessage PQ3, our formally-verified protocol for end-to-end encryption that provides the strongest post-quantum protections against “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” attackers by not only performing a quantum-secure key establishment, but also performing post-quantum ongoing rekeying.

Support for PQ3 will start to roll out with the public releases of iOS 17.4, iPadOS 17.4, macOS 14.4, and watchOS 10.4

I'm very excited about 's hard sails. The vessel will be transporting to the Kourou launchpad.

The semi-rigid hard sails are expected to provide a 30%-50% fuel reduction depending on the wind direction. This has huge potential to reduce emissions of maritime transport.

Engine powered off, the ship sailed at 9.4 knots at a 50° wind bearing with a 19 knots wind, which is quite impressive.

~100 more Starlink v1 satellites will be burning up in the upper atmosphere in the next 6 months, bringing up the total number of de-orbited Starlink satellites to ~500 out of 6000 launched
https://api.starlink.com/public-files/Commitment%20to%20Space%20Sustainability.pdf

De-orbiting satellites by burning them up did work when the volume of satellites was small, but already 10% of aerosol particules in the stratosphere contain aluminum/other metals.
The problem is only going to get worse with the launch of megaconstellations https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2313374120

In sheer weight, last year’s surge added a record 26 billion tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere — more than three tonnes per human.”

Just woke up learning that Sophia d’Antoine was ran over while walking in Upper East Side by a 72-year-old speeding in a Land Rover SUV.

I'll remember Sophia as an inspiring person, telling me a bunch of insightful facts about binary constraints solving after her talk at @hack_lu 2015

Apple Silicon provides data-independent timing (DIT), in which the processor completes certain instructions in a constant amount of time. With DIT enabled, the processor uses the longer, worst-case amount of time to complete the instruction, regardless of the input data.

Learn how to enable DIT in your cryptographic code: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/writing-arm64-code-for-apple-platforms#Enable-DIT-for-constant-time-cryptographic-operations

AOG Technics Ltd, a London-based airplane parts distributor laundered thousands of used CFM56 turbine parts, forging documentation certifying them as new.
The parts landed in hundreds of aircrafts around the world.

The fraudster made millions of British pounds in profit at the expense of traveller's safety.

Speaking of people who put money ahead of traveller safety. The 737 program is the gift that keeps on giving, now disclosing improperly drilled fastener holes in a component that helps maintain cabin pressure.

Boeing's cost-cutting management seems again to be at least part of the root cause here. Boeing spun out their supplier Spirit to a private equity firm in 2005 to boost profit margins.

Interesting paper from 2018 quantifying the impact of on systems.

The 🇨🇳 BeiDou system was outperforming 🇪🇺 Galileo and 🇺🇸GPS during solar flare conditions due to more frequently updated broadcast ionospheric models.

I know Galileo/EGNOS did a recent system upgrade to provide increased resilience against solar peak activity, anticipating Solar Cycle 25, but not sure what those consisted of. Maybe @bert_hubert would know?

"the solar storm ruined the accuracy of RTK systems for many farmers using John Deere tractors”

"Tom Schwarz, who owns an organic farm in Nebraska, told me he had to stop planting on Friday and Saturday because of the issue, and said that the outage, combined with a bad weather forecast in the next few days, is threatening the small time window that he has to plant corn.”

According to the Deere website, their Radio RTK does only use GPS and GLONASS.
