So Kagi has pivoted to suckage, DDG is kinda rubbish now, and lol Google, what are the cool kids using to actually find stuff on the internet? Are we back to blogrolls and web rings?

@CatherineFlick I was kinda thinking about starting a kagi alternative but with no suckage. But it doesn’t exist yet…

Elon Musk: AI will be smarter than any human around the end of next year

While Musk says superintelligence is coming soon, one critic says prediction is "batsh*t crazy."

An interesting thing about the XZ sabotage is that, while it was very cleverly obfuscated (congratulations to Andres Freund for finding it!), once found, it is very clear that it's a deliberate backdoor. It can't be explained away as an ordinary bug that introduced a vulnerability.

Says something about the tradeoff space the attacker was working in.

fl0_id,
@fl0_id@mastodon.social avatar

@xahteiwi @mattblaze as I understand it, that they couldn’t work with sth more subtle, for whatever reason, likely some kind of tradeoff to satisfy other objectives.

@glyph it works well for some things, like asking about type conversions. But also not all the time. So in general I agree with you, but for some things it can be faster than f e trying to find the right docs.

Does anyone know why this has broken recently: https://blog.glyph.im/2014/12/docker-fast-dev-to-prod.html

    Specifically, I:

    1. run a registry on localhost
    2. docker build on my local (aarch64 mac) machine
    3. push to localhost:5000/stuff
    4. ssh -R to forward 5000 to my remote (aarch64 linux) server
    5. docker pull localhost:5000/stuff on that server

    I then get:

Error response from daemon: manifest for localhost:5000/stuff:latest not found: manifest unknown: manifest unknown

@LukaszOlejnik then you can prob just put it on arxiv (now osf for law) or similar. As sure there might be some journal that publishes it like that, but probably none that are worth it to be published in.
