Framework is hiring. If you have community manager experience, familiarity with Linux and Windows, I would encourage you to toss your hat into the ring.

This is a company that:

  1. Entered a category where products traditionally lasted decades
  2. Built a $17,000 product that was obsolete within a few years
  3. Produced a self-congratulatory marketing video starring an Oscar winner about how environmentally friendly they are. https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/2/23900158/apple-watch-edition-gold-2015-obsolete-unsupported-beyonce

We've just opened a new firmware/system software role (open to US, Canada, and Taiwan). We develop open source firmware to enable products like this, and we have even more exciting projects on our roadmap:

We are not sustainable (and neither is any other device maker). This industry is full of "feel good" messaging, but outputs 50M tons of e-waste each year. We believe the best way to reduce environmental impact is to create products that last longer.

We commissioned Fraunhofer IZM to do a detailed life cycle analysis on Framework Laptop 13 to help us understand where we are today and where we can continue to improve.

Factory Seconds laptops are new systems that use parts that are excess, obsolete, or functionally good but unable to meet our strict cosmetic specs.

Progress doesn't have to be a machine that consumes worlds. Use stuff that lasts and fix it when it stops working.

Just a Black Friday reminder that we don’t do time-based sales. Instead, we keep pricing predictable. We also apply permanent discounts on last generation, refurbished, and factory seconds products: http://frame.work/outlet

Instead of enticing you to buy a product when you may or may not need it, we keep pricing stable so that when you do need it, it’s always at the lowest price to date.

Per Phoronix:

"Crap! HDMI Forum Rejects Open-Source HDMI 2.1 Driver Support Sought By AMD"

"The HDMI Forum has rejected our proposal unfortunately. At this time an open source HDMI 2.1 implementation is not possible without running afoul of the HDMI Forum requirements."

Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040 Series) is now out of pre-order and into normal ordering! Many configurations ship directly from inventory within a few business days, and all ship within two weeks. October and November were both record months for us for factory output.

We’ve reduced the price of our B-stock Factory Seconds systems and now have a Framework Laptop 13 barebones configuration available for under $500 for the first time.

This is the i7-1165G7 model, so it has healthy performance too. Our Factory Seconds systems come without memory and storage, so to reduce the all-in price, we’re making refurbished DDR4 available at half the price of new.
