I’ve been having a great time with my new @frameworkcomputer laptop. The flexibility is really unique. First I got to build the laptop myself with parts, and now I get it to be what I want it to be with regards to input and ports and such. I’ll probably swap out the screen bezel for a bolder color, though. The purple is not very purple. Worth the 6 month wait!

I am once again getting the urge to install EndeavorOS but I... only use it to run firefox on it.

Seriously, this is the biggest reason I stopped using Linux; I don't actually use it for anything but browsing the web since gaming just is so much more convinient on Windows and I'm not into Linux for ideological reasons (yet).

I ALSO stopped because the number of bat shit racist libertarians on Linux forums I frequented were souring the experience. But that's another matter.

@s31bz @frameworkcomputer Keeping computers in service keeps them out of landfills - yet another reason to switch to Linux! And who would say “no” to a free ThinkPad?

A is in my future - can’t afford it just yet, but it’s definitely the laptop I’ve decided to go with.

Fedora CoreOS is great for the server use case, but it might be tricky for someone new to it. How does it use rpm-ostree? What is Butane? What are Ignition files? But once you get going, it might be your new favorite way to manage a homelab (and more)!

Spent the weekend playing various intensive Steam games on my Framework Laptop 16 - dGPU switching just magically happens when you launch a game - no DRI_PRIME needed on Framework Laptop AMD images of Bazzite. And they're just getting warmed up. https://bazzite.gg

Also, on my Framework Laptop 13 running Bluefin - look to the upper left corner at the launcher. Yeah, and Bluefin is just warming up.

I've been playing around with #nixos for over a month now. At some point, I had to make my first derivation. And what better software to package than @frameworkcomputer's inputmodule-control CLI.

After a bit of documentation, trial-and-error and 3 hours of time, the package is now building. I must say, it's almost scary how nix packaging works. A bit like black magic.

The package is not perfect yet. udev rules are still missing. Will fix that tomorrow and then create a PR :)

@Lehmanator@fosstodon.org avatar

@torben @frameworkcomputer Not familiar with their inputmodule-control CLI, but it might be worth also adding the nix config to use it to the framework nixosModules in this repo: https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-hardware

The @frameworkcomputer 16 is so far not showing any of the problems I heard about in early reviews. The screen flex is better than my other laptops, the keyboard feels fine (no noticeable flex), and all the spacers fit pretty well. On top of that, it was easy to put together.

Nice. Use FreeBSD on your Framework as your daily driver. Test the things that usually go hinky with laptops (wireless, touchpad, battery usage).

For the intel wireless, you'll use this newer driver in RELEASE and CURRENT : https://wiki.freebsd.org/WiFi/Iwlwifi . It could use a deep dive. A tremendous amount of work has gone into getting this intel wireless interface in working order by #FreeBSD devs. It's been a priority with the foundation, too.
