I think today I’m first time dealing with #AIanxiety: My job is perfect for being replaced by AI.

Sure, it will do a much shittier job than I do, but all the problems will be in time manageable by engineering.

Sure, I will pick up new skills and become a director of AI assistants instead. I’ll get paid less and less per line of code though.

But what I do will become a curiosity. Hand-written code will still be needed when the machine does something stupid, but that will be the exception.

And he’s right. Just look at what’s cooking in the US right now. Picture the culture war, driven by 100 times more powerful tools than the current social media algorithms.

Hi. Anybody want to start a project for #LLM-powered clientside #filters in a #fediverse client with me?

I see the problem is the following: People want the ease of use that comes with ”semantic search”. But any actor providing filtering by algorithm is bound to self-optimize it to suit engagement.

A tech-savvy nerd can set up their fediverse experience via lists, instance following etc. But a normie can’t even imagine that. But what they can, is talking to a computer about what they like!

On my own output, I have to say that Silicon Valley disrupted me out of social relations with the world.

Facebook and Twitter were for so long vibrant venues of discussion. People wanted to answer your thoughts, brilliant armchair-philosophical discussions were had on my #facebook page, for almost a decade.

Then #enshittification took over. And I’d grown accustomed to being able to call on similar minds at the magic of #socialmedia

I was happy to give up my social circles. I didn’t need them.

About the ’New Left’ I love that it was able to let go of seeing everything through the lens of class struggle and embrace free markets.

But it also has been shooting itself in the foot in the #US by abandoning the working class in favour of minority issues.

Not that they don’t matter, but it is increasingly looking like a feel-good scam for the rich to keep treating their employees like shit, ”because they’re taking care of the little guy”.

I extend my solidarity to Scandinavian workers striking against #tesla.

Tesla is refusing to sign any collective worker’s bargaining agreements, which are the price of doing business if you want to do conduct it in the Nordics.

Poor little Elon is trying to sue his way out of this, but his cars won’t get unloaded from ships. And sympathy strikes are legal here, so he can’t just use the neighbouring countries to go around it.

Finished Iain M Banks’ ”Surface Detail” the second time this week. Did not disappoint on 2nd read, not at all.

Although it’s occasionally horror-like storytelling yields a content warning for gruesome detail, the topic of religiosity and eternal punishment in hell deserves a bit of attention to it.

On second time, the connection to 2nd book of ’Culture’ series became much more enjoyable. The hint of a complete re-framing of the story of Zakalwe was out of this world!
