transferring what we have learned about AI writing in the academic world:

the excessive presence of automation in a creative domain is always an indicator of staleness creeping in.

and when art culture has gotten so stale that a machine can indeed do an artists job (from the perspective of art consumers), then the entire culture needs fixing.

my prediction is that eventually, the same colors, faces, poses and style will satiate boredom & foster appetite for something that stirs the shit again

@lritter I was thinking about whether LLMs could find new types of jokes. Similar to how alpha go found new ways of playing go. It might be possible to move LLMs out of the usual averaging mode, add artificial, previously unobserved variation and then gather labels for training thorugh social media favs :)

I've looked everywhere, and there's nothing that tells you how to actually use/configure it.

@Yoss1960 @RL_Dane Note that what is assigned to hard_drive_0 etc. is often a hdf file (Amiga formatted disk image) but can also be a directory of the host system. This way you can pass files easily between the emulated Amiga and the host OS.

@AntennaPod in Antennapod, why did the refresh button disappear into a menu on the queue view? This is infuriating. With a long queue it is impractical to use pull to refresh. And using the menu is prone to user error ("cleared queue, oh you wanted refresh?").

Ich hab mal versucht, zwei aktuelle Meldungen in den größeren Kontext zu setzen.
Warum sind der Temperaturrekord der letzten 12 Monate und das neue Paper über den Zusammenbruch der Nordatlantischen Zirkulation anders als Dutzende ähnliche Meldungen der letzten Jahre?

@Fischblog Ich habe im Moment den Eindruck, dass eins der Hauptprobleme in der öffentlichen Kommunikation das meistens fehlende Verständnis von Varianz ist. "Wir sehen eine größere Unvorhersehbarkeit vorraus" ist halt aus statistischer Sicht gut verständliche Aussage. Aber bei den meisten Menschen kommt das als "Rhabarber, Rhabarber" an.

My instinct is:
Y: up is +ve
Z: into the screen is +ve
X: to the right is +ve.

  • I've got vague memories of making one-thumb and two-finger points with left and right hands... so I think this will be left-handed?
  • Is that the coordinate orientation you'd choose?

@isotopp Laut @mkreutzfeldt war der Haupteffekt dafür der gesunkene Gesamtverbrauch. In absoluten Zahlen war der Anstieg bei Erneuerbaren nicht sehr groß.

@isotopp @mkreutzfeldt Das ist interessant aber die verbreitete Annahme ist doch, dass bei einem "electrify-everything"-Ansatz der Stromverbrauch mittelfristig doch ansteigen wird. Also ist ein relativer Anstieg des Erneuerbaren-Anteils zwar erfreulich, es braucht aber auch einen Anstieg des absoluten Outputs.

A carbon cap-and-trade system, like parts of the EU market have, results in paradoxical outcomes. Additional carbon emission reductions automatically result in increased emissions elsewhere in the economy. Unused CO2 allowances will be picked up elsewhere as prices decrease. This is the waterbed effect. Now I understand why some argued for increasing CO2 taxes instead of the cap-and-trade approach.

Mal wieder Zeit gehabt, in die Virenbundesliga zu gucken. Rhinos und Sars-CoV gleichauf, PIV weit abgeachlagen. Also wie gehabt, auch wenn man nach und nach mehr, äh, Fans in der Bahn trifft.

Weil's nix zu berichten gibt, würd ich gern euern Blick auf einen oft vernachlässigten Aspekt lenken: den Anteil der Proben in dem respiratorische Viren festgestellt wurden. Der ist 50 Prozent.

    So… People put stuff in their robots.txt to “prevent” malicious scraping of their data for machine learning purposes. I hope everybody understands that this is just a “please don’t take my data” sign on the front lawn. We should be creating heaps of adversarial data instead. Data suitable to taint those datasets.

    @nblr I think it's quite hard to know which sort of data is really going to be detrimental for the models in some specific, clever way. But what could do the jobs is putting many exabytes if useless gibberish content on the internet in some concealed way.

    Wusstet ihr schon, dass uns APIs im Alltag ständig begegnen? Wenn ihr beispielsweise eine App verwendet, um das Wetter abzurufen, eine Fahrt über eine Ride-Sharing-Plattform bucht oder eure Lieblingsmusik über einen Streamingdienst hört, interagiert ihr wahrscheinlich mit APIs. Sie spielen eine unsichtbare, aber entscheidende Rolle bei der Bereitstellung von Funktionen und Diensten, die wir tagtäglich nutzen.

    Mein Eindruck: grade Fachleute tun sich im Moment echt schwer mit ner Einschätzung, wie es mit Sars-CoV-2 weiter geht. Aber was man immer wieder hört: ein enger Fokus auf ist nicht mehr angemessen.

    @Fischblog @suessbisscharf Es gibt halt schon ein paar Dinge, bei denen Politik + Gesellschaft fürsorglicher sein müssten. Masken im medizinischen Kontext etc.

    Aber bei der Forderung, dass vulnerable Gruppen nicht allein gelassen werden dürfen frage ich mich immer was der magische Hebel sein soll, um das zu erreichen. Die hauptsächlichen Ansteckungsorte wie Parties, Familienzusammenkünfte etc. werden niemals hygienisch werden.
