From the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s, I was a daily and weekly news cartoonist for the Dutch NU.nl site and the Dutch NRC(.next) newspaper.

I chose 3D graphics as the medium, because it was novel for news cartoons, and it allowed me to build a library of reusable characters, props and decors.

Back then I worked with 3ds Max, and rendered with V-Ray.

I'm never getting a mac again. It's only a few years old, but doesn't support the latest macOS version. Multiple software DEMANDS updates that only run on newer macOS, so I can suddenly not use them anymore. Boooooooo.

Windows just doesn't have this problem.

I thought that was the main thing macs are superior in?
And what will you do about software? It has most of that become obsolete?
I've been a Windows user since the middle 90's and there's just so much I would leave behind.

I've had mixed experience in that matter. I've had a local shop that just were just a bunch of amateurs and very soon went bankrupt and local shops that were great.
On the other hand I've had good experience with big chains as well (media markt surprised me).

Good luck .
Personally looking back, I find the windows experience enormously improved. I hardly notice didn't get in the way of what I want and crashes are very very rare and usually an indication of hardware failure (I use a sound card from about 15 years ago where the drivers are a bit dodgy for instance :))
But I read a post just a few years ago of someone with the opinion windows peaked with Windows 2000 :D

If you include more options (like offering ttf), the browser doesn't load them all, does it? That it didn't hurt to include more?
Personally I'm a big big fan of the backwards compatibility of websites

Right now if you search for "country in Africa that starts with the letter K":

  • DuckDuckGo will link to an alphabetical list of countries in Africa which includes Kenya.

  • Google, as the first hit, links to a ChatGPT transcript where it claims that there are none, and summarizes to say the same.

This is because ChatGPT at some point ingested this popular joke:

"There are no countries in Africa that start with K."
"What about Kenya?"
"Kenya suck deez nuts?"

Google Search is over.

I think there is a problem, but in this case not so much Google search imo.
It shows several sites that the algorithm sees as relevant. It's not directly serving us an answer generated by AI.It's still up to us to discern the right one.
Automated search will never be trivial.

Google serving rubbish as it's first result will always be possible. It's the neverending battle between search engines and the ones trying to game the system.
