I was looking for info channels that will show me life and opinions in , I thought Bisan was a good person to follow, but I see more and more disinformation as well.

Are no Gazans blaming Hamas at this point? No one demanding they give in and return the hostages to end the war? I see orchestrated blames solely against Israel as if the local "leadership" has no responsibility for this horrible situation, and civilians have zero expectations?

I don't know about the entire arab world, but the Hamas/UNRWA school system is said to have been dehumanizing Israelis in order to make better Hamas fighters, which explains the un-Muslim levels of violence on 7.10

Of course, in the Israeli army soldiers are also somewhat indoctrinated to dehumanize Palestinians so they can do a more effective job, but you lose your humanity on the way, and that is a tragedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0KKHIS9D7I

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@palestine
That goes both ways? So Hamas' genocidal attack on 7.10 and years of missiles on civilians makes it ok to hate them? I relieved to know.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone I'm not asking for your permission to hate Hamas. I lost my best friend in a suicide bombing, I have family that almost died on 7.10, and they have fired over 11,000 missiles on my nation over the last 3 months.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone Israel is a decolonising project, its original lands were legally bought, the mandate holder of the land at the time (GB) gave us the land, and the UN assembly voted in favour of it. Calling it any thing else makes you sound a bit childish.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone well, the bottom line is this: Britain's Palestine stretched east all the way to Iraq, the gave the east side (Transjordan) to the hashemites and split the west side between the Israelis and Arabs. That border plan was accepted by the Israelis and the UN. Once the world accepted the state as a fact, it's hard to argue the legality. Israel was not declared in a vacuum.

As for being colonizers, it's not really the standard definition really, because we're a collection of refugees.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone Arab countries ethnically cleansed, kicking Jews out. Whether Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, the Magreb, and of course anywhere touched by Nazis. This is a tiny people, it was just cut down to ⅔ the size, and was still experiencing pogroms and persecution.

You can ask why Canaan/Israel/Judea/Palestine (it had many names), well, because most Jews were not secular, the historic ties to Jerusalem and the rest of the land are deep in our culture, and national ethos.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone Jerusalem was the capital of the Israelite Kingdom, archeology proves it, history books by Greeks and Romans prove it, no need for the bible even, but if you insist, it's also taken as a fact by the old testament, new testament and even the Qur'an. I am an atheist so I care for the 20th century side of the story, but I do speak a 4000 year old language and write with 2000 year old letters.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone the land was named palestina by the Romans 500 years before Mohammad and the Arab conquests that brought arabs from the Saudi peninsula. If I was going to argue on the base of history it's a slam dunk. But I only care about the clear paper trail of the 19th century onwards, lands were legally purchased, towns built, swamps drained and infrastructure was built. Some by Zionist Jews, some by opportunistic capitalists like Rothschild, but it was not an extension of some empire.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone and that's the important thing. All colonies that were quickly dismantled in the 20th century belonged to the USA, GB, France, Portugal etc. Israel was self managed and funded by Jews, and very little funding from governments. Calling this refugee camp that became a country "a colony" is forcing a negative association on a very different story, then judging it on that base.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@NoFlexZone which treaty? We have international ties and agreements, I'm pretty sure over 90% of the UN don't agree with your odd claim. We even have peace agreements and commercial ties to most Muslim countries, so you should consider building a new claim.

Also, of we're a colony, who is our "sender"? Which empire bankrolled this colonization using which army? You claim some new definitions of colonization.

  1. Since the ground war in Gaza began on 27.10, 168 IDF soldiers have died. But Hamas claims 1,600, and this is a good explanation for why there's no ceasefire. Israel can't hide this many bodies of its own soldiers. 1,600 goes well beyond a lie and gets into gross military illiteracy. Wars happens when two sides have different views of their capabilities; Hamas says it's winning symmetrically, which is Baghdad Bob levels of batshit. No wonder it said no to Egypt's generous ceasefire offer.
ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@Alon they are about 1600 in if you count all the dead on 7.10, it may be a case of smartass math, where you say all Israelis are soldiers, including grandparents and babies.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@RememberUsAlways @palestine @israel of course, I think they even said it on record. They got special religious permits to do things Islam forbids, based on some as hoc doctorine that Israelis aren't human.

The whole point of this op was to break the spirit of Israelis, break up the communities of the kibbutzim so they don't return to live there maybe. Also they expected and wanted a mountain of shahids' bodies. I bet the current numbers feel too low to them.

ia42,

@robertnorlyn @dukepaaron that could be because when he died, it was still 35-40 years before the Romans gave that name to the land.

Both my parents were born before Israel's declaration of independence, when the land was called "Palestina Eretz Yisrael" under the British rule, so technically they are both more Palestinian than Jesus.

There was a mass shooting in Prague at Charles University; 14 or 15 people have been killed, including the shooter (official releases are unclear on how the shooter died, rumors say suicide). The shooter had killed his father just before the mass shooting, and none of the reports describes a political motive, just high gun ownership (for Europe) leading to the occasional American-style mass shooting event. https://apnews.com/article/prague-shooting-dead-injured-9a383bc6919c1b0d929cf06aa4818341 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/dec/21/shock-in-prague-shootings-czech-republic

@nilsskirnir @oatmeal that's ridiculous. Bernie is proud of his Jewish heritage, he's just unhappy with the way Israel is conducting itself in the last 50+ years. I share that sentiment deeply, but I'm stuck here with my one passport (working on that).

Zionism was a great idea till 1967, and then it got distorted and taken over by messianic racist fundamentalists. It may be too late to roll it back now, unless somehow Bibi's successor actually founded a Palestinian stable state.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@nilsskirnir @oatmeal also, AIPAC and the ADL are a hard right leaning bunch. Not sure they're doing Israel any good. From the little I know about them, they are not on the "good guys" list in my book. If Bernie stays away I bet he has excellent reasons and I should trust them.

@Hunter @LALegault @Sherifazuhur

You think you are doing Hamas any favours painting them as a passive victim here?

A ceasefire can be part of a greater solution or cause of an exacerbation.

Either way, at this point they are running out of their short range ballistic ammo, and cornered to Al Mawasi have shot the last few rounds from right outside the tent camp. A ceasefire now with no hostage or other deal would only allow them hamas to do more harm later to Gazans and Israelis alike.

ia42,
@ia42@leftodon.social avatar

@Hunter @LALegault @Sherifazuhur
Also, check the casualty charts for the last week or two. Most of them are now combatants on their side and the Israeli casualties are mounting, the battles are now more face-to-face and less air-to-land. If wanted a genocide this tactic would make no sense at all, which kind of disproves popular claims.

used U.S.-supplied white phosphorus in Lebanon attack

[…] Photos and videos verified by International and reviewed by The Post show the characteristic ribbons of white phosphorus smoke falling over on Oct. 16.

[…] Israeli forces possess safer alternatives, such as M150 artillery rounds, which produce screening smoke without the use of white phosphorous.

[…] The United States is under an obligation to track the behavior of its partners and allies who receive its assistance in order to comply with U.S. law, humanitarian law experts said. The use of white phosphorus is restricted under such international law because fire and smoke can be spread to populated areas, according to rights groups.

@oatmeal @israel yeah, that looks pretty damn bad. If we used these on civilians (and I still have no idea why use it at all!) Then it's jail time for some army personnel. I would love to hear their explanation.
