@mjgardner @vingtroiseize

The A2000 is just an A500 in big-boy-pants.

It's the only one I don't own, and nor do I want one.

My favourite is the A3000.

Seems legit. 🤓

@darth
Well the breasts are smaller than they were in the 80s/90s of gaming imagery.

So I guess that's progress.... right?😞

OK, today will be fun! Now RTG drivers...
But before that I need to eat something.

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@darth I have grand plans for my Amiga 1200. for ages now ive had a PCI bus Mediator card, and an ATI gfx card for it, plus a proper tower case to put it all in.

but then i got really into Kickstart 1.3 stuff, so it all went on the back burner!

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@darth to be fair, i bought all the bits several years ago, way before things like the PiStorm existed. I guess as I've got them now, I might as well stick with them.

At the moment tho, my A500 with 8mb and zuluscsi SD for the HDD on KS 1.3 is where im having my fun.

I've also got an A3000, but I want to put Amiga Unix on it, which again is a project for when i have more free time.

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@darth no, I want to do this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_3000UX

Mine is a std 3000, but can be a UX with a bit of effort.

If you think is niche, try being into it, but not being a fan (or a fan of gaming per se).

It's the nichey-of-niches; there's not even a hashtag for it.

It sure is lonely on this rock.

Thinking about how for school I had to research a "leader" whether it was a political leader, sporting leader or business-minded leader.

I picked Sir Clive Sinclair as I didn't know what to do at the time, but now I am wondering what other people could have worked. Steve Wozniak? Jack Tramiel?

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@SinclairSpeccy Jobs was the businessman, Woz was the techie (In my opinion: No Woz == No Apple)

Many people loathe him, but Alan Sugar was a good Business leader. I say was because he never moved with the changing times, and is now mostly irrelevant.

Browser Classic now supports type 8 (telnet) links!

Not only that, but a Veronica-2 search got me this nice list at:

I don't know which of these components I blew up, and I don't really know how to test them without making things worse. So I'm thinking of just replacing them.

The MAX762CSA has been discontinued, so I'll either have to find new-old stock or a modern replacement.

I have no idea what the other IC is... It looks like it might have a 5 and a 6 printed on it (unless it's upside-down, in which case it's a 9 and a 5).

No schematic, so I'm flying blind. All help welcome!

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@thelastpsion Hmmm, it's an SOT223 package, so maybe a voltage regulator - the 5 might mean 5v. if you knew (or could guess the amp draw, then it should be easy to find a suitable replacement? An LM1117 might do it.

re-looking at where the traces go, and comparing to datasheets I'm now sure it's a Voltage Reg.

(I am not liable if you make it worse following my advice, btw)

And to follow this up... back in the early 1990s when GIF images were everywhere via DOS image viewers and VGA being only 256 colours as well, EVERYONE pronounced it JIF.

Only once the younglings got onto the internet did the pronunciation change.

I however know my history and go with what the creator intended.

Got new saddles for my main guitar (which is a modified Squier Bullet Mustang). I kept breaking strings, mostly due to the bridge being a cost reduced Strat style model with the strings not going through the body but only "top loaded" through the bridge itself. Trying some GraphTech string saver saddles to make things a little bit more reliable. They are Teflon so friction should be reduced to a minimum. Let’s see if they make a difference! I’ve heard good things. 🤞🎸

@janbeta Fixes retro stuff AND plays the guitar? ! I hear @jeffgeerling needs lessons 😜

22 years ago on November 15, 2001, in North America, Microsoft introduced the original Xbox.

Alongside the console launch, Bungie, a game development company, released "Halo: Combat Evolved" as an exclusive title for the Xbox.

"Halo" became a flagship game for the Xbox, showcasing its capabilities and contributing significantly to the console's success

Console was so much better modded with the EvoX dashboard and a 'massive' HDD! 😁

Here’s a question for you all on and the :

Imagine that one day you suddenly woke up and you look at the date on your phone. Instead of it being 2023 it’s actually the 2000s.

What do you do?

(Pls boost for wider reach)

17 years ago on November 14, 2006, Microsoft released its Zune player.

The Zune's release aimed to provide an alternative to Apple's dominant position in the portable media player market.

Despite its unique features, the Zune faced challenges and couldn't match the success of the iPod. Microsoft eventually discontinued the Zune product line in 2012

jaruzel,
@jaruzel@bitbang.social avatar

@SinclairSpeccy The Zune desktop theme for Windows XP is still my go-to theme on any XP install I do.
