@ben what’s crazy to me is that heat pump tech is also used in clothes dryers! The result is a ventless system. I love this tech.

@geraineon meaning you probably got this bagel in NYC. It’s incredibly rare to have bagel shops elsewhere and the thickness of the cream cheese serving is classic NYC.

@mariyadelano ran into J Kenji Lopez Alt in Seattle while waiting for my food at an Indian place. He was masked up and went by "James" to pick up his order but it was absolutely him..... I think?

Anyway I hid behind a pillar and never said hi and a week later he posted a review of the food at that Indian restaurant. 🫠 🫠 🫠

You'll probably run into him again in the same building though so I'm cheering for your next time 😀

New change landing in Mastodon for Android soon! In user testing, people have expressed confusion over “why are all the handles so long?”

We're presenting handles on profile pages in a new style, with the username and server separated. Tapping the server will show you more details, along with a neat easter egg animation when you tap the rows.

@grishka did a phenomenal job on this animation 🙏

    @simoncox did the same with plausible as a recommended step from their documentation and it blew me away how useful it was. Never thought to do this in GA.

    Btw, your code blocks might need an extra wrapper for that BG. Horizontal scroll is a little goofed.

    This is crazy.

    A deer defends a bunny from a hawk attack — and then goes mental and apparently kills the hawk.

    I’ve never seen something like this before. Apparently deer will respond if they hear a human baby crying, etc, so it’s possible something in the rabbit’s cries just triggered the deer.

    (It’s not a new video, but I’ve never seen it before.)

    A complete stranger took my Kitchenaid mixer home, fixed it, & delivered it back to me, all for a $20 tube of degreaser and some thanks.

    Repair Cafes are amazing, & they're all around the world — look in your community for RepairCafe.org by you for things you can't fix.

    I'm so thrilled. It was a gift from my stepmom & my brother did an idiotic job of packing it when he shipped it to me, which broke shit.

    Dude not only repaired things, but fabricated a new knob for me.

    Most humans are good.

    I am slowly reaching burnout phase on social media. There are so many angry people all the time. On every platform.

    And then there are always-online-people who feel the need to engage constantly when maybe they should dial that back.

    God knows I have a bucket of online faults and flaws, but it all comes back to just being online too much.

    Between now and the end of the year, I’m gonna try to get the fuck off the internet a lot more. There isn’t much that’s healthy about this these days.

    @impactology in primary school, we were caned by teachers when scoring an 80 or less on tests. It hurt but I wouldn't say it was traumatic.

    The kind of sites I keep seeing people submit to RSS Anything over and over again are local newspapers.

    Today I tried to do the same for my local newspaper and..... it didn't work.

    With some investigating, I found that the renderer was being blocked by a bot captcha.

    OK. @Chron is blocking bots. A little disappointing, but I can respect that.

    Frankly, I don't fault them, except that if @Chron is banning GPT bots, why are they still using GPT to generate content?

    Malaysian Chinese zhap fan (mixed rice) might not sound exciting but a shop with 50+ dishes to choose from is always a sight to behold.

    You’d think Panda Express in the US would be close but they only really only have sweet and oily stir fry dishes.
