    I'm starting to think people that claim to like the fediverse dont understand the point. We want to be able to follow Threads accounts here without having to have a Threads account. That's the whole point.

    No single entity is in control of social media. That's the glory of federation.

    Blocking major companies from the fediverse will be the death of the concept. Don't silo yourselves in fits of hate and segregation or you're no better than the things you claim to protest.

    It's more a question of whether Meta directs people to those protocols or not? Trying to Federate my Threads Profile was three clicks, but I had to hunt for it.

    Threads (and other Meta) profiles should be federated by default.

    The press is fucking unhinged. They keep talking about Iowa as some national sampling tell about Trump’s popularity. Utter clapdoodle. In fact, Trump got about 55,000 votes. And a sizable percentage of that support is soft, apparently. (55k is about the size of Dubuque, Iowa.)

    All time classic prediction: Next year will finally be the year of on the desktop. I have been saying this since 2005 when I joined . And while it has always been a wonderful way to have ridiculous discussions, Linux and Free Software silently took over everything from supercomputers to cloud to edge and embedded.     @cabel Did anyone at Panic test the Playdate out-of-box experience on someone aged 50+? Because I've got to say, it really sucks. (The tiny grey type on white paper is literally unreadable to middle-aged eyes; there's a QR code that won't scan on an iPad, and if you use a phone the registration form is very hard to fill out …)

    As someone who strongly supported Elizabeth Warren's run for president, I'm utterly devastated that she's signed on to co-sponsor the Kids Online Safety Act.

    I cannot believe that she would throw LGBTQIA+ people under the bus like this. If this bill passes, we'll be cleansed from the internet entirely, at a time when our voices and our communities are more important than ever.

    They're claiming KOSA has been fixed — it hasn't been.
