I still adore this screenshot.

Also, some interesting @thunderbird trivia: In 2004, blazing fast internet access wasn't nearly as widespread as it is now, so Mozilla offered to send installation CD-ROMs to users for $5.95.

Every recipe online: “Here's a quick and easy recipe for pancakes! But first, a few paragraphs about my personal life and family, followed by 12 paragraphs detailing my entire life history with this food.”

I've had time to reflect on my experience at and my takeaway is: I sincerely miss being "plugged in" to the community 24/7.

Tracking the amazing developments. Interviewing maintainers. Watching the joy as people discover all the cool corners of a distro they're trying for the 1st time. Having a platform like Forbes and YouTube to broadly share this stuff.

At SCaLE many people told me they miss @Linux4Everyone. I miss it too.

Just feeling conflicted and reflective today.

Thanks for this @fedora! It’s my new go-to for enjoying some afternoon cold brew coffee. I love it!

The coolest booth award -- and most genius donation method -- goes to NUCC (National Upcycled Computing Collective).

They took this soda machine and transformed it into a massive server from reclaimed and refurbished server racks. They even wrote a whole thing to do the transactions.

You stick dollar bills in, select which "flavor" you want, and it pops out a shell for you to access all weekend from the show.

(You can check out their projects at https://www.nuccinc.org/)

@bcon @vwbusguy It was awesome meeting you both! Thanks for taking the time to travel to SCaLE and share your enthusiasm with Linux community.

This was my first SCaLE, but I'll definitely be back because of people like you. It has kind of a family reunion vibe to it, yea?

Rock on!

The stunning reward at the end of this morning's Eaton Canyon hike with @linuxflower and the @thunderbird crew. Including very special guest @gloriouseggroll!

16 ice-cold stream crossings to get here, by the way! It was epic, and I enjoyed this adventure -- and the company -- very much.

AWESOME start to SCaLE.

I'm headed to Pasadena today for . Who am I seeing this weekend?

I'll be hanging out with the @thunderbird community team at Booth 215. Come say hi and grab a sticker!

I haven't talked much about my day job, but now feels like the right time since I recently moved away from management back into a content + community-driven role at @thunderbird.

As successful as the Thunderbird project is, there's a lot of room for us to improve our community engagement, whether that's creating a more welcoming environment for new contributors OR just being a fun "third place" for our users.

What do YOU think is missing right now? What can we do better? 👂

Just stumbled into a Linux gaming discussion where a guy had the audacity to say he recently tried many flavors of Linux but can’t find one where all the games they want to play just work.

Predictably, every reply was:

“Well the selection of games I play on Linux works great with my unique hardware & software variables, so gaming on Linux is perfect for everyone and you don't know what you’re talking about."

And you wonder why people go back to Windows. Sometimes it’s the “community.”

For the past several weeks I've been debating switching to a dumb phone / flip phone (maybe a Light Phone?), but addiction clearly isn’t the issue. What I’m sure of is this: I’m definitely done giving T-Mobile $55/month for something I barely use.

Anyone have good experiences with Mint Mobile in the US? (I do realize T-Mobile recently purchased them…)

A pair of recent controversies around the tech-publishing giant Automattic raise an important question in my mind: Do we have to worry about the future of WordPress? https://tedium.co/2024/02/28/wordpress-automattic-tumblr-controversy/

It's admittedly just canned soup, but I'm giving myself points for presentation!

(I’ve managed to keep this basil plant alive and thriving for 5 months and for some reason that makes me really happy.)

The 90s were awesome because a song about a band's unabashed love for peaches could become a Top 40 hit, and the accompanying album could go TRIPLE Platinum.

Pearl Jam just lost my money, and honestly most of my loyalty. This is absolutely ridiculous.

My Foo Fighters ticket cost a full $300 less for about the same location — and I considered THAT just above what I’m comfortable paying for even my favorite band.

As of today, I am no longer subscribed to any streaming music platforms. I dropped Spotify last year, and today I dropped Tidal.

I have an awesome and growing vinyl collection. I ripped all my CDs and have my entire digital music library on both my iPod and Plex.

I'm content with this decision. In fact I'm EXCITED about it, because I'll be spending more time enjoying and loving the heaps of music I already own.

As for discovery? Recommendations, Bandcamp, and good old fashioned music blogs.
