trying to get running with @lkh (still!)

now I know why SMTP is called the Simple mail transfer protocol

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@lkh and then we will have our computers meshed together which means we can send mails via uucp to...

checks notes

us two.

Hmm...

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@lkh interestingly uucp also can be used as a fileshare server. if one is willing to wait a while for their stuff to arrive (depending on how often the servers in between poll each other)

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@lkh also you need to know where on the target system the files actually are located

Is anyone surprised? By definition LLM can’t be 100% correct and LLM hallucination poses significant challenges in generating accurate and reliable responses. ChatGPT Answers Programming Questions Incorrectly 52% of the Time: Study. To make matters worse, programmers in the study would often overlook the misinformation. https://gizmodo.com/chatgpt-answers-wrong-programming-openai-52-study-1851499417

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@nixCraft of course people would overlook this stuff. When you program something you pit your own thoughts behind it. When someone else programs it they have put their thoughts behind.

Llms by definition put no thought at all behind it, and having a 52% rate is already kind of impressive.

ah, IT issues... yesterday I tripped a fuse when making dinner (the electric kettle somehow creates a power surge just before boiling, and when the oven runs at the same time it gets tripped).

When I put it back my small rpi server in the living room all of a sudden makes issues. It runs, and I can connect to it from the outside, but somehow not from inside my home network.
But I ping it and it seems to be on... but I just can't seem to ssh onto it anymore.

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

after troubleshooting way too long into the night this morning it finally dawns on me: when I tripped the fuse the rpi rebooted, but my laptop didn't. So when the network came back the laptop registered on the network first and by chance got the IP the rpi normally reserves for itself.

So all the time when I was trying to ping my little server I was pinging my own notebook and of course I saw it as online

Well y'all, after a couple of false starts, I have successfully blown away the prior Ubuntu/Windows 10 dual boot setup on my ancient PC laptop, and replaced it with Bazzite. Bazzite is apparently a gaming-friendly flavor of Linux, and looks a lot like the Linux flavor on my Steam Deck.

It took some patience and tweaking, but now the system is successfully booting into the OS. Steam and Lutris are confirmed present. And I'm installing Skyrim as we speak.

The big hilarious question to answer here will be, will I actually be able to run Skyrim? And if so, will I get the same hilariously bad FPS I got without mods? We're talking 8-15fps right around Whiterun, LOL.

This should be amusing. :D

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@annathepiper hmm, never heard of bazzite before, but I guess i should check it out

@annathepiper thanks. maybe I manage to dual boot my machine with it

In "let's kick a wasp's nest" today:

It's been 30 years, and several spin offs. We don't need another Kirk and company show or movie. We need a TNG reboot with new actors playing Picard and Crew.

The last only TOS movie was in 1991. The Kelvin timeline movies started in 2009. That's 18 years.

The last TNG movie was 2002, so it's been 22 years, so we are technically over due for a reboot.

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@Laztheinfamous we need neither. We need new shows.

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@loboaureo @copacetic yeah. Until they decide to argue to revoke the license for reasons.

(Also you have to watch out what part is covered under the license, some stuff is gonna be product identity)

(Actually, the beneficial part of this is mostly that you can use their own expression of the rules to make games. Rules as such are not copyrightable, but if you are expressing the rules too similar to their own texts they still could sue you. Using such a license is supposed to take care of that)

You haven't supported Starbucks since you found out they support War Crimes.

I haven't supported them since they went hard on union busting and I found out their tea sucks.

We're pretty similar and I'm glad you're here now, comrade.

kyonshi,
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

@Nagaram uhm... I haven't supported them since forever because their coffee sucks.

but on the other hand I am not really surprised that a company that foists that stuff onto customers also condones union-busting and war crimes.

On the other hand my brother always keeps saying that he only ever read one book (Treasure Island) and didn't really like it.
