Ah, nature is healing, an entire family of tiny little spiders hatched in my vehicle this week! 😂

(My son: "You know, you have a hundred little spiders in here still?!?!"

Me: "Oh yeah, pretty cool!")

@ai6yr How big is your vehicle that they could fit?

Having a load of laundry done and drying on the line is pretty good to have done before noon (for me). In the midst of some other "business hours" bureaucratic tasks the state and businesses non-consensually delegated to me...

Ah...othering and some vice signaling.

"Well, you're only 3.44% (citation needed) of ____ population so I don't see any need to desegregate my communications"

Apparently what is a "threat" is unfollowing people so you don't accidentally boost their inaccessible toots. Othering people based on their marginalized status isn't threatening, apparently.

It's remarkable to me how confident abled folks are that they'll never become disabled.

@marcprecipice Sounds great to have it less trafficked.

I found these videos because I was actually trying to find a video of what it's like driving over the new span. My cPTSD-supercharged acrophobia is horrible and I haven't gone over the replacement span yet. I was trying to preview how bad it is (it looks like there are no real visual baffles).

meganL,
@meganL@mas.to avatar

@marcprecipice Aw, that'd be cool. I am trying to see if "exposure therapy" helps. Even though video is not exactly like being there (the swaying, the sounds of the seams on the tires, and the homicidal driving of folks around me all contribute to the terror I now feel going over high bridges or flyways), it's at least a way to get myself used to things.

I used to not be phased by any of this stuff. My acrophobia used to be very mild.

It's not incorrect, but it's disgusting how often the case has to be made that something that should be our ethical duty to do is also "good for the economy".

Guarded good news! Sometimes writing on a comment card or giving feedback for a business works!

I had written before with a suggestion a year or more ago. But I wrote again recently and have now received two replies. If they agree to meet, I will demonstrate to them how bad these "lightning bolt" racks are and see if we can get staple racks or Sheffield racks there.

I'd really like to see @parkingreform make common cause on things like this. Nothing points out how much parking policy is about subsidizing those who are wealthy like persecuting people who have no choice but to live in their vehicles.

If cities are hassling poor people, but rich people & corporations can park their cars (despite often having a garage), their motorboats, etc. for free, we can make it abundantly clear which class is behind car-centric policy.

Make car-centrists put up or shut up when they argue that we need all our car infrastructure and prioritization because the disabled and/or poor need it.

Because of capitalism, ableism & car-centrism, they do need it until we get better policies & infrastructure in place. So prioritize car parking for these populations and stop hassling them. Hassle those who are abusing public property in luxury and pursuit of profit.

I forgot what a nightmare filling the forms directly is for a dyscalculic (even the 1040 form).

May everyone at Intuit and their accomplices who've fought the IRS simply sending us all invoices rot in hell.

meganL,
@meganL@mas.to avatar

@HayiWena Thanks. It sucks.

I've done it free via TurboTax in past years, but Intuit isn't on the list of available free file this year (I presume because they're having a hissy fit over the IRS doing a Direct File pilot).

I am usually a little more together than this, but I was expecting the same amount of difficulty as in past years, not this new twist.

I'm so fried right now the chance of making a mistake is high. I may try to file an extension.

Somehow, was out of carts. I don't know how that happens. There were people waiting at the entrance, trailing other people to their cars to grab their carts.

"No sweat," I told the security people at the store entrance. "I brought my own cart."

Same bike, but this time the shot from behind the rear wheel. A black pannier hangs from the rear rack. The bike frame is white, with a blue box on a black platform. A hailong battery sits atop the platform. Same groceries in the box.

(I moved it after taking the photo for documentation of this crap. Sheesh.)

meganL,
@meganL@mas.to avatar

@loshmi I'm sure they'd say "we need people to see it from both directions".

The parking lot is huge, there's no way to miss it. And people walking & rolling on the sidewalk are also coming from both directions when there's not a big barrier in the way...

Ableism and car-centrism overlap once more.

@loshmi Privatizing public goods...check my TL for what Davis did to G St. here.

I'm trying to work up the oomph to go to city council over it, but I'm absolutely certain I'll be cast as a "crank" for not being okay with these gifts of public property to business owners.

We have a big problem in with folks who pretend they're riding a e-assist cycle when they like those laws, only acting like a motor vehicle when they like those laws.

This guy illegally passed me on the right when the light turned green (right turn only lane), then pulled ahead and onto the cycle path. It's a Vespa-like motor scooter.

We have a place in town that calls itself AMP Bikes that sells these and food delivery now races along cycle paths and MUP.

meganL,
@meganL@mas.to avatar

@enobacon It's a pretty purposeful design to put pedals on something that can't even actually be used simply so you can get around the law of having to license a motorcycle.

The paths around Davis have shitty designs, but I'm not going to make excuses for homicidal assholes, either.

Design out as much bad behavior as possible, but at some point there has to be enforcement because there are always dangerously selfish assholes.

People would think horticulture has nothing to do with accessibility, but it does.

Planting an Acanthus in this narrow spot was already a bad choice even if there were no wheelchair ramp there. You have to design your landscape for the projected mature size of the plant, not the size it is when you buy it.

But having it here and not constantly trimming it means you're just performing accessibility.

This is the entrance to an art gallery. @plants

The bike shop I work at, , just got back to me to tell me that they are going ahead with their policy of installing cameras in the shop to monitor employees. They say these are not used to track productivity, but the CEO is a union busting ex-Amazon executive and he has given himself that power, so that's enough for me. My last day will be mid-May and I am now properly desperate to find a new job before I loose my house. Leads in the bike or software industry welcome in or around .

    @grivettcarnac I figure we need to create cycling culture & media that appeals to the same impulse we see in kids and even adults to get really into sports cars, low riders, etc.

    I really think "funky cyke show" could be one of these things. Model on classic car shows, low rider shows, etc, but it's an opportunity to show folks, esp in remote areas, all the different possible cycle designs for various tasks and fun.
