SMALL VICTORIES: I play on PC with a controller for reasons. @RobynGoodfellow got me a three-pedal keyboard extender so I could use it for ping commands. By default the pedals send a, b, and c, so I made "c" a redundant command for ult status, moved that off the wheel, and put "y" for "yes" there instead. Then I set a and b for two useful ping commands.

And it worked fine for heroes with custom command sets but not in "All Heroes" default control mapping. It kept taking "yes" back off and putting ult status back on no matter what I did.

So I finally set up a VM and ran the sketchy pedal reprogramming software in it and set pedal 3 to "z" instead of "c" and deleted the extra key command... AND IT FIXED IT HOLY SHIT

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

THIS WAS WAY TOO MUCH WORK FOR SOMETHING SO SMALL and yet I am so happy about it xD

also the software was less sketchy than I thought in that windows said it had a valid microsoft-issued signature but that only means so much, i mean, that means they aren't trying to screw me? but that doesn't mean they won't accidentally screw me. hardware makers ship some incredibly shite software.

so it'll stay in its tiny VM. but it did work! i'll give it that. it worked fine. :D

I posted an update on my project storage system project, which is also a narrow-space vertical shelving and organisation system, a lot of other things, all depending upon what parts of it you decide to print. There are new STLs and such.

If you try it, I hope you'll let me know how it goes so I can fix problems. It's working very well for me but I take feedback

After much sewing and gluing, Squishy Icosahedron has been assembled and stuffed. Pixel mapping is (painful and) underway, and I plan to generate orientation responsive LED animations when that's done.

A stuffed icosahedron sewn from fleece fabric with 10 smaller translucent 3D printed triangles inset on each of its somewhat rounded sides displays colorful Illuminated animations as the small triangles light up in different colors.

    @jonobie Oh I love all their series. Most of all the ones set furthest back in time. :D

    @jonobie RIGHT. It was the Edwardian one I skipped. Yes, fully agreed, that was too far forward for me for those kinds of reasons. I started it but bailed out.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again - someone who gets angry, like, really personally angry at liberal/moderate politicians for not fighting fascism, and turns around to yell that they really ARE fascists, and/or mass murderers, is a reformist at heart, not a revolutionary. In that they think that the State apparatus could be used for good and it's just that Bad People are in control of it, while Good People would simply wipe out fascism.

    Project Gutenberg have joined the Fediverse via a Mastodon account here:

    @gutenberg_org

    If you aren't familiar, they're the group that OCRs and verifies out-of-copyright print works, then makes them available in electronic form to everyone ^_^

    eta: See also Distributed Proofreaders doing a big chunk of the heavy lifting too, then releasing through Project Gutenberg: https://masto.ai/@ariaflame/110452031708604912

    moira, to random
    @moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

    Trivia: every person named but "not available" or "in Tibet" or not picked up because "let's keep this intimate" and so on is the production crew putting back in, at least by name and reference, all the women the studio made them take out.

    The hope was that if they got the sequel they'd already be canon and could demand they get put back in.

    moira,
    @moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

    @pevohr Well, it's a cult movie so there was a very dedicated fandom for a long time, and I got it from them. I don't honestly remember how it got to me, but I was super into this film on... early Twitter? That doesn't sound quite right. But one of that era social networks. Could well've been early/mid-2010s Tumblr.

    downloading now, i gotta say one of the weirdest things about is that we won't be watching liek 15 different versions of the same movie, coherence is scary

    moira,
    @moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

    @jonny @slowenough Banzai Rastafari >>>>>>>> Phantom Menace for sure

    and the crew did their best to keep at least mentions of the woman the studio insisted be remove in the film. They didn't have to do that and really went out of their way to do it. So that gets some credit from me, particularly given the alternative was "no film agreement for you."

    moira,
    @moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

    @slowenough @jonny The more you watch it, the more shit you catch, for just the longest time. There are so many tiny jokes.

    There's a noise at the end of the jet car run at the start of the film. It's coming from the vehicle.

    It's a joke. If you get it.

    moira,
    @moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

    @slowenough @jonny Dieseling. Very specifically.

    Something jets literally can't do.

    And it's a jet car. xD
