@massivelyop
Sadly this kind of resonates with my experience. It's very clear that the devs love this game, and the worldbuilding is epic. Unfortunately, there are several major issues in terms of gameplay systems that stop you in your flow.
My biggest grievance so far (apart from some unfortunate bugs) is that there is no clear indicator how hard a given foe is to fight, so you sometimes get oneshot, even on early islands.

I too have shelved the game for the time being, I'll check back later.

Not quite, they will effectively just be a legendary version of Relics (which replaced the sixth tier of runes, the special effect, starting with SOtO). Runes will still exist, they will just (as they have been since SOtO dropped) be only stats.

Fun fact: in Germany (as well as some other countries in the EU), creating a copy of a copyrighted work for private use is perfectly legal, as long as you

  1. do not re-distribute it (there is a narrow exception for your very close private circle)
  2. do not do it for commercial purposes
  3. the version you're copying is not an "obviously illegally created/published copy"

Afaik, this does not apply to software, which requires permission.

(I am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice)

Today in AI bullshittery:

Nvidia has trained an LLM on their codebase to save senior designers having to answer junior's questions about what some code does.

I don't know how many times i have to say this, but these are not search engines. They are not inference engines. Their answers are 100% "what would be a plausible sounding string of words to respond to that input?" that's it. That's all they do.

1/2

nightdice,
@nightdice@chaos.social avatar

@masukomi
Nvidia: why have solid documentation when we can just have a semi-accurate bullshit engine for our junior devs?

PogoWasRight, to random

Seriously: who decides what "best practice(s)" is/are for incident response? And how is that determination made?

A law professor reportedly informed a student news outlet it was โ€œbest practiceโ€ to limit information about a breach claimed by threat actors until there was information on the full scope of the breach and the network was secure.

โ€œInstitutions do not want to get into a drip situation where they notify people of a breach, then later learn the breach was worse than understood, and then have to give more and more notices,โ€ he wrote.

So "best practice" is defined as what is most convenient or in the entity's best interests instead of in the best interests of those whose data were stolen? I can understand the wanting to secure the network part, but it is not acceptable in the World According to Dissent to delay disclosure of a breach until you know the full scope if data are already being leaked on the internet or appear to be at plausible risk of imminent misuse.

Calling delays like this "best practices" seems to confer some legitimacy on delays that I don't think are all legitimate reasons.

(Wanders off in search of coffee..)

nightdice,
@nightdice@chaos.social avatar

@PogoWasRight
As a (relative) lay person on IR, my opinion is that it's best to inform users a la "There has been a breach, your information may be affected, please take the following measures to ensure your safety: ...", but to keep detailed info on what was stolen behind closed doors until you know the sum total extent of it.

Telling users specifics before knowing all of them can only end poorly unless you're lucky, so I agree with that professor there.

It's interesting how she feels the need to re-emphasize that the proposal is allegedly about protecting children (which has been debunked repeatedly), when none of the accusations of illegal conduct have anything to do with the content of the proposal.

Pretty much openly showing that she thinks claiming to "protect children" is a free pass to do anything she wants.

They could've gotten rid of laurels entirely and move the laurel rewards to the astral acclaim vendors because 99.9% of these are acquired via login rewards.

Now you get the situation where you will have to buy laurels from an astral acclaim vendor separately

nightdice,
@nightdice@chaos.social avatar

@that_shaman
That would be my guess too. They want to avoid a situation where not having spent your laurels from years of login rewards can give you the next few rotations worth of astral acclaim loot.

Search engines a few years ago: okay, this one knows the magic words, give him the secrets.

Search engines now: those symbols are part of your desired results, right?

nightdice,
@nightdice@chaos.social avatar

... Yes, I am very salty that search engines stopped treating search operators as absolute and started treating them as requests.
If you don't have the exact thing I'm searching for, I want you to show no results damnit, not over a dozen completely unrelated results that I have to go through to be sure.

nightdice,
@nightdice@chaos.social avatar

I used to be able to find the most obscure documentation by refining my search query over several iterations, nowadays I'm just getting the same results over and over again, despite those results not being related and me doing my best to use query syntax to exclude them.

This has actively made my search engine experience worse and my life a lot harder when troubleshooting. No, I don't want generic problem no. 15, I'm looking for specific solutions!

A team of security researchers has discovered a vulnerability in Echo, an anti-cheat and cheater detection software advertised to gaming companies.

The vulnerability (named EchOh-No) resides in the tool's kernel driver and can be exploited by attackers to gain SYSTEM privileges.

The research team says they tried to disclose the vulnerability to the Echo team, but they were mocked and banned from their Discord channel.

The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic throughout. The only thing fans disagree on is which track is best. Maclaine Diemer did a fantastic job, and the various people who contributed (most notably in my mind Lena Raine, Lena Chappelle and of course Jeremy Soule) only worked to diversify it, creating a beautiful result.
