FFS my librarian is afraid to take a homemade gift from me at Christmas but these clowns are allowed to take high-dollar bribes?

There are laws against bribery. Somebody could find one. Someone could arrest them.

I'm so tired of having it shoved in my face that there must be, at best 1 or 2% of law enforcement willing to enforce the law equally against all, regardless of who they are. And that 1% will always slow walk cases against the rich & powerful.

Why pay $250K for a ticket on a bucket of bolts with a $50 game controller when you could build it better at home in your garage?

I just read that literally 17 bolts will stop them from getting out even if they did find some way to get to the surface on their own...

The Chaos Machine makes a convincing argument that social media algorithms have worked over time to sway susceptible people to believe first in anti-vax propaganda & then to follow the anti-science rabbit hole to right wing extremism

Heads up: royalty rates for indie titles on amazon have been changed down to 35% from 70%

Apparently they can be switched back, but you have to do it manually, and keep your eye on that.

Amazon is not a partner you can trust.

Edited to add: Emma Barry shared these on twitter (re-posted with permission)

peachfront,
@peachfront@toot.community avatar

@notTheAudience @joyce @herhandsmyhands

That's not correct context, it's literal misinformation

I sell lots of wide books at the 70% royalty rate on Amazon but you do have to price at $2.99 or higher

I just double-checked this month's biggest seller for me on Amazon, and it is indeed still listed at the royalty rate of 70% even though it's not in the Kindle Unlimited library & they know it is widely distributed at all of the major online retailers

peachfront,
@peachfront@toot.community avatar

@joyce @notTheAudience @herhandsmyhands

Yep, you're absolutely wrong about that. The 70% royalty rate on Amazon is for books that are in the price range $2.99-9.99. It has nothing to do with whether or not you're an Amazon exclusive/in the Kindle Unlimited library. The royalty payment plan is public information, so you can see it here on Amazon: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G202187870

    Private jets are a luxury for the ultra-rich who wreck the planet with destructive lifestyles.

    North America (basically the USA) is home to more private jets than all other regions of the world COMBINED.

    Private jets are ~10 times more polluting per passenger than scheduled flights, and 50 times more than an average train ride.

    We can, confiscating private "assets" for public good isn't some wacky dream that has never been tried

    An example: in 1974-75, Kuwait nationalized its oil industry previously under the control of foreign US & UK companies

    Result: for a time, the average income of a Kuwaiti citizen was the highest of any nation in the world, including the US

    There's no legit reason to leave valuable assets in the hands of the few
