Anybody else still curious who planted the pipe bombs, disabled Mike Pence’s key card, removed the panic button in Ayanna Presley’s office, and shared the locations of non-reinforced Capitol windows?

peachfront,
@peachfront@toot.community avatar

@skykiss

We have text message evidence that sharing locations was done by GOP Congresspeople-- whose names are known

We have video of the pipe bombs being placed that some say (I'm not good enough at judging by gait evidence to know myself) is Marjorie Taylor Greene

At min. we know GOP Congresspeople were aiding & abetting the attackers on Jan 6... these people should have been jailed awaiting trial 2+ years ago

Justice delayed is justice denied... as always

It's my opinion eReaders are a tech whose time has passed because my Android Tablet (for reading) & phone (for audiobooks) do everything more & better ... I already tossed my old Kobo eReader, still have a couple of Kindles but hardly ever use them

Kindle's main advantage was its long battery life, an advantage that doesn't matter anymore because of small & more versatile power banks

My library seems to spread out the books I want over Hoopla, Cloud Library, and Libby, so yep... I need all the apps on my tablet & phone

peachfront,

@theotherotherone @agt @bookstodon

Libby is the app for Overdrive & it works great on both tablets & phones--

Some of the books I borrow are on audio & for me, I find it easier to use my phone to get them & send the audio to a bluetooth speaker...

Experts panic over Florida tourism as major conventions flee state’s 'unfriendly political environment'

Convention organizers are pulling out of Florida

When asked for a reason why they were scrapping plans, one organizer wrote simply: “Governor DeSantis.”

Thousands of dollars are also being lost by restaurants and attractions by visitors going elsewhere.

...Community Schools Conference – it also pulled out of more than 2,000 hotel rooms.

Covid delays aren’t the only reason for long passport wait times in the US. Part of the issue is that more Americans want to travel internationally – and many are eager to do so post-lockdown.

In 1989, only 3 in every 100 Americans had a passport.
Today, that ratio is up 45 for every 100.

No one knows if US is going to go full fascist & how many of us will have to flee but we have an illegit Supreme Court going mad & a man who led an attempt to overthrow the gov't still walking free on no-bail

People aren't buying more $110 pieces of paper because "bored post Covid" but because the last time people needed to flee the country wholesale (men in the Vietnam War era), you could enter both Mexico & Canada without a passport

Next question!

It was popularized in the 80s, i think one of Trump's ghostwriters wrote the book Other People's Money... Rich people think they're too important to pay for stuff, which makes me wonder sometimes why we pretend to believe they're rich or allow them to keep big items like aircraft, buildings, & Twitter...

So tomorrow, the NWS forecasts wet bulb temperatures in parts of the US are so high, that people will die if they aren't in air-conditioning. You can't really do anything in wet bulb temps above 90F, and you die in wet bulb temps above 95F.

And it's only June!

Do you think there's a way the Internet could've been designed differently, early on, which would've made it better than it is now?

peachfront,
@peachfront@toot.community avatar

@ZachWeinersmith

Not the whole internet maybe...

But it should have never been normalized on Social Media the requirement to use your real name -- Facebook didn't create that culture to help women but to make it easier for frat elite males to know who to despise (for not being pretty or rich) & who to bully (anybody not a cis male)

People were originally able to come online & discuss mutual interests w/out being judged based on looks, gender, class, color-- all that's long gone now

This #Jan6 email from #Pence's counsel to Eastman while "under siege" is a great reminder of the stakes of that day and the villainy of those who would overturn the election. It also might be the longest email I've ever seen that was written on an iPhone.

The way it was explained to me, as an American is, "Americans don't need a reason not to read a book." When you live in an anti-intellectual society, it's destructive to consistently focus on what you don't like about books. Now, obviously, there are books so egregious, so widely known already, & so popular that one feels one must say something but...

Most of the time, nothing good comes from sharing one's dislike of a book.

FFS my librarian is afraid to take a homemade gift from me at Christmas but these clowns are allowed to take high-dollar bribes?

There are laws against bribery. Somebody could find one. Someone could arrest them.

I'm so tired of having it shoved in my face that there must be, at best 1 or 2% of law enforcement willing to enforce the law equally against all, regardless of who they are. And that 1% will always slow walk cases against the rich & powerful.
