The Rafah crossing has opened from Gaza for the first time since the Hamas attack in Israel on Oct. 7th. A small number of wounded Palestinians are being taken to Egypt for treatment and some foreign nationals or dual passport holders are also leaving. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2023/11/1/israel-hamas-war-live-anger-grows-over-israeli-attack-on-gaza-refugee-camp

@w7voa A good first step by Egypt, even if small, should provide some relief.

October 7th - Hamas shooting an RPG at a civilian car, killing its occupants.

@Free_Press They will turn around and blame someone else, typical Hamas terrorist behavior. There's a difference between causing regrettable civilian casualties, and killing civilians on purpose.

Finland is working to allow the US to use several Finnish garrisons or military bases on its territory, — Yle.

The details of the agreement between Finland and the US are not disclosed at this time, but it is known that the negotiations on military cooperation between Finland and the US are almost complete.

Finland hopes that cooperation with the US will improve the country's security. Washington has similar agreements with 20 countries.

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Free_Press It's very important to be ready to defend Finland because it could be a new front on the war between civilization and terrorist states. Still an attack on Finland will imply the obliteration of the Russian and Iranian tyrannies.

From Anti-Muslim to Anti-Jewish: Target Substitution on Fringe Social Media Platforms and the Persistence of Online and Offline Hate

"First, increased anti-Jewish speech was partly driven by the same far-right communities and extremists who previously promoted anti-Muslim speech... Together, this study demonstrates a robust link between the dislike toward Muslims and dislike toward Jews, and how fringe groups organize the dissemination of hate."

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@MisuseCase @Alon That will depend on the specific geographical area, and nation, as well as the understanding of both terms which aren't uniform.

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@MisuseCase @Alon Yes, I agree that most in the US comes from traditional white supremacists groups, but the extreme left in the US is showing concerning antisemitic trends, even tho' is still a minority. In Europe anti-Semitism mostly comes from Muslim communities, with support and endorsement from the extreme left, the white supremacist cases are a minority in most Western Europe, but appear more common in the East: sadly nobody has the monopoly on antisemitism or islamophobie 😓

pmroman, (edited )
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase Yes of course, you're absolutely right, but the war was 80 years ago. Today antisemitism in Germany comes mostly from Muslim communities. There's a higher proportion of extreme right antisemitism, still present, in the east of Germany than in the west. The extreme left antisemitism is present too, but less than in France or Spain. Also Germany is still "split" and a big part of it remains the "east".

pmroman, (edited )
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase Sure, that's right, I'm sure you understood my veiled characterization of Germany's duality. AfD is very popular in the East, if I understand it correctly. I extended to Germany's extreme left the parameters known for most of the extreme left in Western Europe: refusal to qualify Hamas, apology of its actions, credit to its propaganda. However, I made the mistake of considering Germany's a unique universe, I was wrong.

pmroman, (edited )
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase Very interesting, thank you. The impression outside Germany is that the AfD is an "East" issue. Also that the Muslim community, not talking about citizenship, is behind most antisemitic crimes, like it is in most of the west of Europe. I understand the comparison with PACA!

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase Are the Germans from Turkish origin susceptible to Erdogan's antisemitic rants? Here they are, with an strong influence of the Muslim brotherhood. PACA is very peculiar once you look beyond the lux, the yachts, and the beautiful people, but everyone looks away from it.

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase I'm not sure white supremacists were a significant component of the GY, I didn't have that impression.

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase I don't give much credit to SOS Racism. Yes, GY were poor, low educated, mostly rural people, thus white.

pmroman,
@pmroman@toot.community avatar

@Alon @MisuseCase Of course not, most weren't part. I was talking about those who were.

    This is a video from the ChP_Kavkaz telegram channel purportedly showing a sort of preemptive police raid in Dagestan - in majority 'Muslim areas of Russia’s north Caucasus mobs raid hotels looking for Jews after rumors spread that some Israelis had moved there to flee the war. This video is from Dagestan, but similar incidents happened in Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia.'

    @fulelo Russia is consistent with its history of pogroms and antisemitism, one of the main reasons why communist Russia allied with the Nazis. Also it demonstrated the alliance between Russia, Iran, and the rest of terrorist nations. This is as close to WW3 as we can be, with fronts in the , , , , , , , many nations in .

    Hungary will veto the European Union's proposed 12th sanctions package if it includes the gas, oil, and nuclear energy sectors of the Russian economy, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Oct. 28

    "I can tell you for sure: if the next package contains something that contradicts our national interests, we will definitely not agree to its adoption," Szijjarto said, referring to the above-mentioned sectors as a "red line."

    @hanse_mina If Hungary continues like that, it won't even be mentioned anymore, like Bielorrusia it will be just considered a Russian colony without EU funding, risking a removal of its veto right.

    The "good" news is doesn't seem to want to escalate in the fighting with Israel, also because US forces nearby will probably wipe them out quickly (my guess). Nobody else will come to Hamas rescue so Israel can execute it's military operations what remains a large problem, even if all plan succeeds, what to do with 2 million people, who will govern Gaza? Israel is responsible if they eliminate Hamas🤔 @geopolitics

    pmroman,
    @pmroman@toot.community avatar

    @ErikJonker That's a recent said when applied to war, Gaza is lawfully PA territory, and Powell was wrong: Iraq and Afghanistan are clear examples. We can't export our values, including democracy.

    pmroman,
    @pmroman@toot.community avatar

    @DirkBoente @ErikJonker @geopolitics Other option will be for the UN, with support from the Arab League, taking over the reconstruction and creating a viable government structure.

    pmroman,
    @pmroman@toot.community avatar

    @DirkBoente @ErikJonker @geopolitics The only problem is most Arab nations don't trust the Muslim Brotherhood, movement at the origin of Hamas, and consider it a thread to most traditional governments. I think we need to start talking about the real levels of implantation of, and support for, Hamas in Gaza: it's the elephant in the room.

    pmroman,
    @pmroman@toot.community avatar

    @DirkBoente @ErikJonker @geopolitics The Muslim Brotherhood is very close to Erdogan since the 70's, and very influential in Turkey.

    pmroman,
    @pmroman@toot.community avatar

    @ErikJonker @joesticker @geopolitics I think your assessment is correct: preventing the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which will leave Turkey and Iran isolated on the issue, was a main goal of the terrorist attack by Hamas.

    This article is almost 10 years old. This is not a new situation. It’s well known.

    I’ve seen users in the Fediverse claim this isn’t true (with zero evidence) which is the only reason I’m posting it.

    My greatest wish is for an end to the violence all around, but it’s as important as ever that we stick to what’s real and not spread what isn’t.

    Why Hamas stores its weapons inside hospitals, mosques and schools-
