So, the water-management company refuses to share the keys to the Water-meter, so I can monitor the usage myself - they use GDPR as an excuse.

And it did not take long until I realized that I have not given consent on sending the water-meter usage to a third party in another country.

if they use GDPR against me, I will use it against them.

Do they have the same key across all devices?

Help me decide what distro to use on my Garage PC.
I'll use it to program chips, mostly ESP32,ESP8266 and similar. Also listen in on radio traffic with an RTL-SDR.

I am defaulting to Debian on this one, if you does not try to convince me to try something else

#linux #askfediverse #askfedi

portaloffreedom,

@selea
OpenSUSE it's nice. In this case I would suggeat Leap because it's not the rolling version. Debian is also a solid choice.

hey heads up to everyone who uses more than one name or has strong separation of personal and professional identity:

I changed my display name in the web client for Teams to my full legal name for a call with the bank and this, to my astonishment, propagated to my local Windows install and now that name is all over it.

portaloffreedom,

@0xabad1dea
The opposite for me: I need to change my windows username and I can only ask IT to change it in Microsoft stuff. Which they did, but windows does not get the new name. So I'm stuck with the wrong spelling.

Interesting talk about Git and games. The speaker misses the biggest issue with use Git in games and that is file locking. Two artist working on the same file is not mergable. The art in RtMI had to be source controlled in SVN, which I hated. Space wasn't an issue. I ran my own Git sever. File locking was.

portaloffreedom,

@grumpygamer
Git LFS should support both large files without creating super huge local repo size and file locking. At least I keep seeing the option for file locking, but never used it / tried it out.

How is windows even a thing? There's no option to invert mouse wheel scrolling 💩

portaloffreedom,

@StampedingLonghorn
Wow, talk about 💩 design. Yes I've looked at a bunch of different styled windows (windows 10) and I only found how many lines per scroll event to change. And it does not go negative.

Domanda per .

Nelle regole c’è: “No alla pubblicità e/o agli annunci commerciali (consentiti i progetti personali/indipendenti)”.

portaloffreedom,

@sio

🛂 It's clear: you want faster, easier travel across the EU.

68% of Europeans consider that the digitalisation of the travel documents is an important step to:

🔹 accelerate border checks,
🔹 increase security and
🔹 facilitate travelling to or from the Schengen area.

Our goal is to create a common standard for digital travel documents in the Schengen area, making travel hassle-free for everyone→ https://europa.eu/!3cwwwX

portaloffreedom,

@EU_Commission
10 minutes of border checks are nothing compared to the many hours you need to come to the airport before departure.
We want easy and accessible train travel!

It's baffling to me that Disney+ doesn't have a way to simply update your country of residence and corresponding payment method.

I signed up for Disney+ in Croatia. Now that I'm in America, Disney refuses to let me change my address OR use a US-based card for payment.

The only realistic solution is cancelling my account and signing up for a new one...

Absolutely terrible customer experience.

currently suffers from high load, and we are having a hard time to stay ahead of the scaling issues.

If you mostly test our software or sync your small private projects, consider using https://next.forgejo.org for the time being.

Benefits include:

  • it runs on the same hardware and stack managed by Codeberg
  • you can make use of the latest features
  • better performance
  • dogfooding helps the Forgejo developers (please report problems!)
  • it reduces the load on Codeberg

Back in 2019 Unity said "When you obtain a version of Unity, and don’t upgrade your project, we think you should be able to stick to that version of the TOS."

Of course now the GitHub link for the TOS changes is dead, gone. So much for that then 🤷‍♂️

https://blog.unity.com/community/updated-terms-of-service-and-commitment-to-being-an-open-platform

portaloffreedom,

@gamingonlinux
This was, I think, after the whole deal of unfair competition with a company that developed unity plugins for multiplayer. At first they were all about that "always the latest TOS applies".
This was just the reply after a huge backlash.
