I was back at my first job at iRobot. Some manager I currently follow on linked in last night had re-hired me.
I was excited to just make money again.
Howerver, I didn’t go to work on my second day because of burnout/depression.
I didn’t go to work on my third day because of the anxiety caused by not letting my employer know what was going on.
On the 4th day I went to work. They mocked my apology when I finally talked to them. While I was gone, manager and his friend coworker stormed the corporate housing I was staying at and put all my stuff on the street. They kicked me out and kept mocking me…
Side note: my friend who is getting a degree in writing warned me that dreams do not follow narrative structure and usually make for a bad story as they only make sense to the dreamer. #writing
But back to the main topic: poor mental health can be absolutely paralyzing. I could totally see myself beeing frozen at the idea of missing work and scolding myself for omitting to warn my employer, putting even more pressure on myself (“I’m a failure”), making myself even more paralyzed, skiping even more work…
I am getting anxiety just writing about this FICTIONAL situation.
And for today: unplug your laptop.
This incoming geomagnetic storm my disrupt electricity transmission. It would be a shame to run out of battery when there is now power
Me to my illustration professor today :
« It doesn’t matter if you give us two extra days for the assignment. We are artists, we all have ADHD. We can only work under pressure. We’ll do it at the last minute »
WOW! just perused the image gallery for the #MetGala over at Harper's Bazaar and it's not only super-uninspiring, but for maybe a couple of people who understood the assignment. it's the beauty aesthetics of most of the people attending that is very late-stage capitalism with a bad take on trans-humanism. the 1% and their millionaire lackeys are really into that waxy Real Doll skin aesthetics. baffling.
My landlord installed a heatpump / electric combo water heater last month. It has a wifi connectivity feature that supposedly lets you schedule the water heater.
I was excited to be able to turn it off during peak times (4 to 9pm) and at night and set it to high efficiency mode when needed.
We all know that PG&E is a private utility company which participates in stock buyback, unjustified rate increases coupled with unrealistic compensations for their CEO.
I know they don’t have me best interest in mind yet I cannot opt out if them scheduling my water heater…
My only option is to turn off the IoT and delete the app.
Are appliance manufacturers are colluding with utility companies ?
So once again, as a tenant, I can’t do anything. My landlord probably got some tax deductions, and we’re stuck with either a dumb water heater or a collaborator spyware smart water heater…
At least it should theoretically be cheaper than gas but with the way the rates are increasing, I need to do the math
Don’t buy an #EcoTerra or at least download the #EcoNet app beforehand to see how shitty it is.
one of the most common causes of injury for cyclists is dooring (a term used in the cycling community for when the door of a Boeing plane falls on you)
I can’t imagine taking an art history class without the internet. Did you have to be born in Paris, New York, London, Berlin or Rome to become an art historian before the internet ?
Did you just see grainy art on a projector ? Did you have to be rich to be able to travel to all these museums? Or did everyone art department have copies of the master pieces ?
What’s the history of art history?
Also let’s praise Dr Zucker and Dr Harris for their phenomenal videos on Smart History. Here’s my favorite statue ever:
Glanced over the wall street journal and they are literally saying that university endowments won’t divest from israel or fossil fuels because they’d lose too much money…
Sorry for the paywall, I don’t have the ability to share the article.
Every time a San Francisco restaurant owner complains about ‘bike lanes’ that’s usually a sign they’re going to close in 3 months. With or without bike lanes (which are proven to drive traffic to, not away from, btw)
So much easier to blame bike lanes than your own unpopular food
