Okay, since I'm on laundry today, a little story.

When hubs and I first got married, we were very much enjoying our little Honeymoon Bubble, and we were being lazy as Hell. We didn't do many chores, but the laundry we really let go. We weren't wearing many clothes at home anyway, so why bother. Anyhow, after weeks we finally reached the swimming suit bottoms situation, and decided it was time. It was loads and loads of laundry that needed done, so I had my husband back the trunk of the car up to a window of the house, then he popped the trunk, and I started tossing laundry out of the window into the trunk. We went to the bank, got about $30 bucks in quarters, and found the emptiest laundry mat we could, and did it all in one fell swoop. We folded it all and loaded it back into the car using those wheeled laundry carts. We never let it get that bad again, and decided it was time to be adults, and do regular chores, but it still makes me laugh imagining what the neighbors and the laundry attendant thought.

@RickiTarr The summer after my first year in college, I had an internship that had dorms but no on-site laundromat. We didn’t have cars so it meant carrying everything to the laundromat in town. Friends of my parents lived closer to my dorm than town. Tom and Carol refused to open the door if I stopped by to visit but didn’t have my laundry. Carol would have me take it to her laundry room where she would wash, dry, and fold my things. No one was allowed to touch her washer and dryer.

Sleepy kitty cuddles are the best, pets are not allowed. He will leave if I try to snuggle back. He only wants the warmth of my lap. It’s a fair trade.

Pro tip if you are friends with people who love where they live: an easy, fun present for birthdays (and ESPECIALLY housewarmings) is to go to ebay and find an antique map for their area. I fucking LOVE antique maps of my area and have had a 100% success/joy rate when buying them for other people. You can usually find cheap ones - I just got one for a mate's upcoming birthday for just over 10 quid.

@girlonthenet When I visited my mom last summer, I asked her and my stepdad if there were any near trails close to their house. My stepdad pulled out a map of the old, now-defunct local railway line and showed me which parts were paved. I have never been so envious of a map belonging to someone else. It’s not ancient but would have been new in the 1980s. Thanks for letting me share, I, too, agree maps are an awesome gift!!

@Sheril One of my local-owned mom and pop pizza places implemented something like this in the last year or so. The owners have huge hearts and take care of people when they know there is a need.

@RickiTarr I attended public school in grades 1-12 (age approx 6-18). As an unpopular social misfit, I did well academically but didn’t make lasting friendships easily. Most of the bullying stopped by the end of ninth grade when my buily’s brother forced one bully to leave me alone. It was better to walk two miles home every day than endure being kicked, pushed to the ground, or spit on. It’s been about 30 years since I graduated. I left town and plan to never return.

What is a little white lie you were told as a child, that you believed for too long?

I was way too old when I figured out a human couldn't actually get sucked down a drain or flushed down a toliet. I used to cling to my little brothers, and pull them out of the bath any time my Mum would pull to plug.

@RickiTarr In second grade, in order to help cement subtraction rules for numbers with multiple digits, Mrs. W taught us that the big number always went on top and we couldn’t subtract larger numbers from smaller numbers. I was devastated when I learned about negative numbers via a TI99 game the summer after second grade.

    I'm gonna be honest y'all, it's felt dark lately, and for good reason, LGBTQ+ rights in the balance, an election coming up, women struggling to get basic Healthcare, mass shootings, SCOTUS, the environment. The list goes on and on, and the media twists everything to sound even worse, or just straight up ignores actual news. But here's the thing, I know a lot of you, and the fact that you exist in the world gives me hope. You care about the future and you want good things, and so do I, and as long as that spark is there, we have hope. So, let's focus on some good today! Share a good headline, some positive news either on a larger scale or just something personal, a nice picture you took, a funny meme or video, whatever made you feel good or at least, gave you a smile. Let's share some joy!

    @RickiTarr I don’t know how to embed a toot of mine so here is a link I hope works. This is one of my cats, Nox. Her morning ritual where she comes into the bathroom and demands pets while purring loudly and trilling at me, volume up!!

    Nox is a rescue and joined our family when in Nov 2019, she was about 5 months. She has a lot of trust issues but has done this for the last 4 months.

    Nox is a shelter rescue. She joined our family when she was about 5 months old but didn’t know how to kitten. Toys scared her, she was content to watch the other kitten play but she wasn’t interested in participating. Progress has been slow but I had so much fun watching her play yesterday morning. I even grabbed a few pictures of her with her narwhal. (4 photos)

    One of the things I love is when people refer to a character in their lives simply by a name, and then I get to guess whether they are talking about a child or a pet. This is especially fun when people name their pets people names.
