At the largest scales, the Universe resembles the growth of slime molds, which generate highly interconnected networks when searching for food. This behavior has been used in a variety of sciences, and it also applies to simulations of the cosmos. Researchers evaluated one of the most comprehensive simulations of the Universe ever made, IllustrisTNG, and compared the growth of large-scale galactic structures to slime mold feeding patterns.

    @WeavingWithAI all good. I prefer the "flatter" first image, as the graduated ones feel a little over-trendy these days. Having said that, the shadow of his glasses on that last one is ace!👍

    A grasshopper lands at a random point on a planar lawn of area one. It then jumps once, a fixed distance 𝑑, in a random direction. What shape should the lawn be to maximize the chance that the grasshopper lands on the lawn again?

    Surprisingly, the lawn should never be shaped like a disk! Here's what it should look like for various choices of 𝑑. For larger values of 𝑑 it gets even weirder.

    @WeavingWithAI one thing I've noticed from my (admittedly short) time with dalle3, is that it's not afraid to break up and play with anatomy, faces etc - most engines I've used decide something is a face and then rigidly sticks to that. Dalle3 seems to be more creative in its interpretation

    is it just me or is there a lot of cross-bleeding recently in !? When I'm prompting for 'Hergé' I'm getting a lot of 'Charles Schulz' at times!? Or'Rembrandt' sometimes gets me 'girl with pear ear ring' vibes in my images!?

    @WeavingWithAI well, more likely Vermeer😋, but I get exactly what you mean. I get it a lot in non-midjourney stable diffusion, usually I just work around it, or include the same terms in a negative weight to try and minimise. Sometimes it can be fun to manipulate but to me it always seems like knitting fog/herding cats😋

    Elon’s tweet disparaging the need to support the Wikipedia has stuck with me. How could anyone, even a creepy libertarian who hates government find fault with wikipedia? The wikipedia is an independent not for profit corporation. It’s the way the libertarians always assure us public goods can still exist even in their fantasy futures. And in this limited area the wikipedia largely works. A backbone for the web of human knowledge. But somehow even this is still objectionable.
