The loss of decent third spaces in the past few years, some understandable (Pōneke , how is that Central Library looking?) but mostly just due to abject failure of public duty ( monitoring and passive mitigations when?) really hitting extra hard today.

I love our house, I love my kid, but I need a break. So do lots of folks, I imagine.

I've been actively looking at places to move to - outside of . I've been thinking of leaving Canada for several years. Past year has led me to explore leaving Canada more seriously & I'm actively looking for possible places to move to now. I'm not happy with where the government is going here & after decades of activism & seeing very little change here - ready to give up on Canada. It's not a safe space for me.

I just see white neoliberals taking over here. Weak moderates.

If you're hesitant because you or the people you know are creeped out thinking about the fact that stuffy rooms = hotboxing other people's breath, then fine: make it about outdoor air quality.

Are you in a major urban centre with lots of car emissions? Or in the path of brushfire smoke? Make or buy filters for that reason! It all works out to the same end!

@verbman tell me more, UVC use is still pretty edge case, but there are definitely applications, esp in hospitals and rooms with adequate ceiling height and low levels of VOCs

I'm & have not had a cold or flu for 5 years so far & really want to keep that consistent. No covid. I have had other unrelated issues that I am actively tackling & managing. I believe my super cautious tendencies have a lot to do with why I haven't got nor any serious cold/flu for a few years. Meanwhile, my supposedly healthier friends(many now former friends) have gotten sick more than 2-3 times in same time period.

I am going to remain & cautious.

@msquebanh It's actually bonkers that looking into basic monitoring and improvement of IAQ could mean drastically reducing the rate at which cold, flu, RSV, Covid, and any number of airborne crud, making us all healthier as a society, and we're... Just not bothering. It's infuriating to me on a regular basis.

Unhappy trend: AI generated children's voices narrating educational content. Young children can have more stilted speech patterns so a very young AI generated voice takes a little longer to detect than an adult.

I always skip and block channels that use such voices, but I got nearly 20 seconds in before noticing the fake kid's voice.

Worse the young people who these videos target are probably less able to detect the issue, or be annoyed by it ... Heck, maybe it'll be the new linguistic trend.

Hey fellow Duolingo nerds, what is supposed to be the correct number of "Quests" to earn this month's badge?

Because I won it at 30 quests, but I just noticed my kid has to get 35? And he has no quests left for today, it runs out in 9 hours. He was devo when he missed out on the badge two months back, and has been working hard to earn them since.

We share a family account on Super Duolingo. But we're also Android users, so maybe it's mucked up cuz they run things differently to iOS?
