And then there's domain block (defederate), server, as a whole, blocks another whole entire server: all the users on that server, everything coming from that server, is silenced and local users won't be able to follow friends, see their posts or anything across the divide. There's also email domain block and IP rules.

So, yesterday I posted something that went somewhat viral (by my standards anyway: about 1.5k combined boosts + likes). Two observations:

Firstly, the amount of unpleasant responses I got was unreal! I have made orders of magnitude more use of the ban hammer during the last 20 hours, than I've done over the previous year. There seems to be a tendency in some parts of the fediverse to just spit out racist and homophobic slurs for the mildest of disagreements, and that's simply not OK.

Secondly, Mastodon notifications are ridiculous: Line after line after line after line of ‘x boosted your status', ‘y favourited your post’ is just impossible to scroll through (yes, I know filters exist, but why doesn't Mastodon just group them?) (Also: why is it called boosting a status, but favouriting a post?)

So, quick Linux Mastodon Admin question from a noob...

If I want to cronjob certain tootctl commands to run weekly can I just put them in the crontab with @weekly? I tried using the script from https://ricard.dev/improving-mastodons-disk-usage/ but it doesn't seem to run anymore after the last few Mastodon updates.

When setting up the script originally, I used the traditional way of setting it weekly, but I saw in the crontab that there's a few already in there with @weekly set so I was wondering if I could just set the commands themselves in the crontab like that.

Thanks for any help. Appreciate it.

@thisismissem @vmstan Thanks for sharing. However I see concerns from the thread @thibaultmol posted, I'm all for accessibility, how can we improve this? I feel like we are limiting choices between hCaptcha or new disabled registration users here as if we can't have both. This is pushing new users elsewhere. 😔

Had anyone watched Chinese's "Three-Body" Sci-Fi series based on the novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin? Is it watchable? 🤔

It consists of around 30 episodes compared to upcoming Netflix English version which have 8 episodes.

How do you feel about physical touch? I mean this is the broad sense, not necessarily in a sexual way, but you can answer however you wish.

Personally, I enjoy it a lot, and find it comforting, but only from really specific people. If strangers or people I don't know well want to hug me, it's okay, but I won't seek it out. I think handshakes are weird. Hey, you want to hold hands with a stranger for a short amount of time for some reason?

@rolle likely database restore was corrupted due to new tables between stable and 4.3. It was experimental for a while after all. New domain so went fresh anyway.
