One of my most popular blogs is about G.H. Hardy, who is my favorite mathematician. It isn't a proper biography. It is mostly my attempt to convince people that maybe he wasn't shy and awkward. Maybe he was a misunderstood introvert.

I'm thinking next month that I might try to do a proper biography. Try to show more of how I see him that might differ from other points of view. I thought that I might write a book but that probably isn't going to happen now.

There is the G.H. Hardy Reader which serves as the closest thing we have to a proper biography. It includes some of his papers and not all of them are about math.

Anyway, this is what I wrote about Hardy.

HI all. I currently have my website (fractalkitty.com) with wordpress and my renewal is coming up. My site has grown much larger than the original plan and I am reassessing if I should stay with wordpress.com or migrate to something else. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I jumped into this with out a ton of know-how originally and want to reevaluate to make sure I want to keep doing things this way. Thanks in advance. I know migration would be quite the task.

suzza,
@suzza@mathstodon.xyz avatar

@fractalkitty I've started using a static site generator for my blog. Which works if all you have is written content. I published a guide to help people move from WordPress to Astro.

I'd be willing to help migrate you if this interests you at all.

Today, I wrote about the Finite Group. The team behind it are Katie Steckles, Peter Rowlett, and Matthew Scroggs. Sophie Maclean has had to step down but Ayliean MacDonald has come on board.

They are doing a live stream free for the public on Wednesday, March 27th from 5-6pm GMT. Or 10 am PDT for us folks in the US. The topic is that recent 100-question survey with contentious questions on mathematical conventions.

Please boost to spread the word!

I found this article today about a woman teaching girls about math using figure skating. It is really interesting to see how people combine math with their interests.

So, I wanted to put this out there.

I am looking to interview mathematicians for my blog at https://beautyofmathematics.com/.

It is a ten question interview that can be answered over email.

Would anyone like to be featured?

Thank you.

It looks like I won't be able to stream . My wifi connection is too weak and keeps disconnecting from Zoom. I know there will be recordings but I was really hoping to get the chance to talk with people.

@christianp I think it is just the signal that is the issue. I'm going to try getting closer to the router and see if that helps.

I got the best compliment today. Someone who read my interview in Forbes wrote to me. They said that I sounded "cool AF".

What you have to understand is that part of my math trauma is this. A parent told me once not to talk to other people about math because it would make them feel bad.

So I stopped trying to connect with other people about it. However, this did not stop me from taking math courses.

When I finally told my best friend about it she said that she had never loved anything as much as I love math.

When I say that I wished that I met a mathematician before college it is because of this. I needed someone who could tell me it was okay to like math.

Numberpile was a revelation to me. It is so wonderful that kids now have this outlet to learn about mathematicians and their work. It didn't exist when I was a kid. They can connect with people who have positive feelings about math.

Here are some other ways that kids can interact with people in math and science.

Skype a Scientist

I recommend mathematicians get involved with these organizations.

Would you all be interested in how to build community online and offline? Specifically around your content and not just another community with your peers.

This quote represents what I try to do on my math blog.

"Short stories are more like poems than like novels. Novelists put stuff in, because they are trying to represent a world. Story writers, as Poe implied, leave stuff out. They are not trying to represent a world. They are trying to express a single, intangible thing. The story writer begins with an idea about what readers will feel when they finish reading, just as a lyric poet starts with a nonverbal state of mind and then constructs a verbal artifact that evokes it. The endings of modern short stories tend to be oblique, but they, too, are structured for an effect, frequently of pathos."

I was too young to really know what was up with Keith Haring but in retrospect I love what he stood for and his approach to art as a tool for good.

suzza,
@suzza@mathstodon.xyz avatar

@jeffpalmer Keith Haring is my favorite artist. He believed that art belonged to everybody. There is so much gatekeeping in the art world. Then you have the Pop Shop where anyone, even a kid, could afford to purchase some art. He was able to reach many people through that philosophy.

Well, I have finally done it. I've collected all my patterns into a single blog post. There are ten in total. I know that I'm late on this as my original intention was to get this up in June.

The idea behind them is that a beautiful equation should represent beautiful people. This is why the Euler Identity was chosen. This is an extension of my thinking of making math personally meaningful to people. My identity and my love of math are two important things about who I am as a person.

I figure there are other people out there like me that went to celebrate both.

One thing I want to do with my math blog is interview Non-Binary and Transgender mathematicians who are public with their identities. That is the representation that I would have liked to have seen as a kid.

I know this isn't perfect but in cross stitch you can't do curves. This isn't too bad though for a start! This is a pattern on 14 count aida for the aperiodic monotile.

I found some SVG files from @christianp. So this is the Spectre tile on a 14 count grid. Should help you figure out how to stitch it. For curves, stem stitch is best.

Here are those svg files.

I’m reintroducing myself now that I know all the hashtags. As well for the new people migrating from the bird app.

I am a writer who made a career from writing for blogs. Since 2018, I’ve written about my experiences with mathematics. With a focus on math anxiety. I’m working on creating a math communications conference in the US. Links to both are in my bio.

I am working on self-publishing an ebook. The subject is creating content and the intended audience is scientists. I want to encourage people in STEM to make content for the public. I’m qualified to help because I’ve been writing content since about 2011. It also includes a chapter on building community. That early support is so crucial but many people don’t know where to begin.

I have some hobbies! and . As a community manager I've worked for a tabletop roleplaying games publisher in the past. I love dice! Especially the mathematics of strange ones like non-transitive dice.

My favorite ttrpg show is .

I also try to post a song every day. Whatever I'm into at the moment.
