If Apple is dumb enough to start leaving markets in which it can't follow the law, it's not gonna have many markets left.

Apple’s one trade (or otherwise) war away from losing access to China. It would be colossally stupid to voluntarily leave a western market for the sake of one man's ego.

Apple's OS build process is overseen by Ireland. It has consumer apps teams in France. The iTunes infrastructure itself is run out of Cork, last I checked

@stroughtonsmith as a person on a spectrum - I don't understand humans. So I don't get why companies don't want to control their own mastodon instance, the same way they run their own website. Boggles my mind.
Same for smaller podcasters. My podcast is irrelevant , however there are some out there with thousands of listeners and massive social presence. Yet they insist on monolithic social media .

Oh, today is my 8th anniversary of working on Mastodon. I was 23 when I started, finishing my last year of university, still living at my parent's place. I had no idea what I was getting myself into or that it would consume the next 8 years of my life almost completely.

    Yes, will demote WebApps to bookmarks on iOS 17.4 in the EU. Yes, they claim the EU is to blame. And no, that is not true IMHO. What is right is that under the DMA (Digital Market Access) rules WebApps could become a real escape route for Apps to avoid the Apple App Store tax. So better to close that possible loophole and blame the evil EU. IMHO. Reminds me a lot of the Cookie Banner stuff. Same story. Same blame game.

    @Gargron @jwildeboer number of tasks that people used to achieve with simple native software, that now has to waste energy either running in web browser, or even making web calls and execute APIs on servers. You'd be astonished.
    So yes, cloud and web stuff has a substantial environmental cost. Sorry to break it to you :)
