I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:

@echo_pbreyer Gibt es eigentlich Initiativen, digitale Verteidigung in der EU ähnlich ernst zu nehmen wie physische? Von keinem Unternehmen, keiner Organisation, keiner Privatperson würde man erwarten, ihnen zutrauen oder wollen, sich gegen permanente quasi-militärische Angriffe in der physischen Welt selbst verteidigen zu müssen, wie es in der digitalen Welt der Fall ist.

@echo_pbreyer Ja, in diese Richtung gibt es einiges. Und das ist auch gut so. Aber mit Abwehr (oder wenigstens Prävention) hat das leider wenig zu tun, das ist ja eher eine juristische Absicherung und die Verwaltung eingetretener Fälle.

Okay, I grudgingly bought a system years ago because it was just convenient.
The latest update is terrible and breaks all local features - no library, no local services, all search goes to their servers. (Even though they explicitly stated ~2 months ago that v1 search would remain.)
Whatever their business model is it doesn't seem to include customers.

Now what do I replace it with?

@lhengstmengel @larsmb I’ll be looking into Plex Media Server maybe to reduce the dependency on Sonos’ software stack. (The hardware has mostly been great.) And the Plex apps look really well-designed and feature-rich.

@larsmb Very true in the long term. For me, Plex looks like a convenient (okay, 🙈) and relatively low-priced alternative. Plus, it might give me something extra which I’ve wanted from Sonos since like forever: stream library music directly to your non-Sonos devices like iPads etc. I don’t have any actual experience yet, but it looks to me like they’re listening to their user community at least for now.

@larsmb Thanks for the pointers. Re: Multi-room – AFAIK, you can either add your Plex Media Server as a streaming server to Sonos, or if you use Apple devices, you can use AirPlay from there, including multi-room

Update: The images are working again!

We worked with Wasabi in getting the illegal content removed, and they re-instated our account.

Welches Buch sollte ich lesen wenn ich Dinge über modernes Python lernen möchte?

Mir muss niemand mehr erklären, was eine Variable, eine Klasse, eine Methode ist, was der Unterschied zwischen call-by-value und call-by-reference ist, aber ich würde gerne mal die Eigenheiten von python erklärt bekommen die man wissen sollte um guten Code zu schreiben.

    Warum bin ich nicht ueberrascht, dass es Musk ist, der den ersten Arschloch-Chatbot veroeffentlicht.

    I get so sick of having to find my phone just to download a research paper on my computer.

    I understand there are some situations where 2FA is essential but authenticating my library proxy login can't be one of them.

    @ct_bergstrom If you happen to use a Mac computer, you can now use macOS’s built-in password manager (“Keychain”) to set up 2FA codes.

    @jwildeboer We switched to this one after three guys in an electronics shop struggled to connect an HP printer to our MacBook a couple of years ago, finally giving up and finding HP printer drivers weren’t compatible with macOS. 🤣 Haven’t looked back and will stick to Brother for eternity. (Or if the current one breaks, which might be around the same time.)
