Just pulled a box from the e-waste bin that has PS/2 and 9-pin serial ports. If it boots, we'll see if or can give it a new purpose.

One of the hard things about the thing is that 's existence as a community rebuild was so often touted by people at Red Hat as a testiment to Red Hat's commitment to . It wasn't whether or not they could shut it down, but that they knew about it and intentionally didn't. Of course, there were those at Red Hat who disagreed with that back then, but it was very much a pitch point for what Red Hat was about in the space.

Putting special characters like @ at the beginning of a key in is a no-no. Fortunately, there's a way around this with a bit of unicode magic on a double-quoted scalar.

These get converted to @jupyterlab/extensionmanager-extension and @jupyterlab/jupyterlab-telemetry in this example:

Looks like depending on how you install it, is sometimes the default instead of on Leap.

I wish #SUSE/#openSUSE would just enable #dnf out of box for non-transactional variants. #zypper is comparatively slower/clunky and there's not a clearly unsolveable issue with their mutual co-existence. #Linux

It's sad and unfortunate that a number of people have chosen to block or unfollow me over speaking about recent RHEL stuff, including some I have great respect for. I understand that tensions are high, but I hope bridges can be rebuilt in due time.

Want to print a random codepoint in a shell for some reason? to the rescue!

python -c 'import random; print(chr(random.choice(range(0,int(0x10FFFF + 1)))))'

Since the / bridge was severed, it's amazing to see how many simply have chosen to go back to IRC. The IRC users are still ghosts on the Matrix side, so the numbers of people left on Matrix are much higher than they likely are.

Anyone else remember how company adopting the "Business Source License" for MaxScale made MaxScale and the company super-profitable? No one? Oh yeah, that's because it didn't.

This poor Mac Mini was born into the world with terrible out of box software*, despite having a very capable ARM processor. This experimental and invasive procedure might help this little Mac go on to live a highly productive and functional life.

Imagine the potential positive environmental impact change we could have if we all just fixed and optimized the terribly inefficient javascript libraries that so many websites and webapps use.

Did you know has a repo for things that aren't in RHEL or EPEL? They remove packages from it if it hits EPEL, but if you've ever wondered what desktop would be like on EL9, AlmaLinux has you covered! It'll also automatically enable EPEL and CRB for you when you enable it!

Something that irks me: When spellcheckers mark spellings wrong for officially recognized variants.

Example: counsellor and counselor are both correct spellings in English (with slight preference for one-l in America and two l's in UK English).

Both Cambridge and Miriam-Webster list both. There are several such examples where variant spellings are commonly accepted in American English.

I have never once eaten and thought, "wow, that is spicy". Flavorful, yes, but spicy, no. Not in Europe, not from an Indian restaurant, not from a Thai restaurant. I'm beginning to suspect that to Brits, "spicy" just means "anything that has flavor".

Seems engineers at a previous employer have been getting emails from sales asking to help make sure they're "properly licensed" according to their developers' usage. I'm very happy that I pushed to standardize on there instead. I'm sure they are right now, too. This is style tactics.

If you're a longtime #Windows user who might want to give #Linux a try but you don't know where to begin and are worried it will all be too overwhelming for you, then I suggest #Fedora #Onyx. You'll get a very similar desktop experience via #Budgie with a very low maintenance Linux experience under the hood. And yes, you can game with it 😎.
